That was literally the point of a notch. People always say it's intrusion into display when it's actually expansion of display. They moved signal and battery icons there into expanded parts so they don't take up actual usable rectangular part of display. If you black it out, you're literally eliminating that benefit. People (mostly Apple haters) exaggerate the notch as "annoyance" way too much. I hated the notch at first when first leaks of iPhone X appeared with the notch, but now living with it for almost 3 years I couldn't care any less if it's there or not. Sure, when notch will be gone and we get clean uninterrupted display, I'm not going to complain. But I'm really not going to go into raging crusades against it. Just like I never have with punch holes, pill shaped punch holes or teardrops found on Androids.

Oh wait, they don't. So much for that "choice". But it's convenient to throw it around when you're angry at Apple for some reason and totally ignore just a reversed perspective on other phones. Funny how that works doesn't it?

[deleted post]Yes we do, it might not be quite as fancy as Apple's but Huawei definitely has it on their current flagships... And it's appeared a few times on other brands too.
It's just that a fingerprint sensor is a better idea.

It doesn't bother a lot of people, including me. More important question here is, what are they going to put into the newly extended space. If it'll just be same time, battery and signal icons, does it even matter? Those things are already in that space so they don't interfere with the main display part.
On Android it matters more because it has a status bar up there and lists all the notifications on it. iOS doesn't have that. Unless they plan on adding more things up there with iOS 15.

It's not "multiple punch holes", it's a black notch, just smaller. The photo just shows the black rim that goes around the front glass on top of a fully assembled phone with older, larger version of such black rim for front glass.

You're exaggerating the twins and similar faces thing like it's making phones just unlock on anyone. Meanwhile 99% of Android phones that have face unlocking just use simple 2D photo that can be fooled by pretty much anything. Only exception being Huawei that also used dot projector for 3D mapping of face and Pixel with the Soli radar thingie. The fact remains, almost everyone using FaceID prefers it over other methods. It's only whiny Android users who are apparently so salty about it that they can't stfu about it. I had fingerprint unlocking on my last phone and I still prefer FaceID despite the notch and despite masks.
