None of Apple's AirPods or HomePods support lossless audio

18 May 2021
Even plugging in the AirPods Max with a cable doesn't work.

you know what supports lossless audio? our good old friend the headphone jack.
what a great idea to remove it from products. respect for that amount of bold courage.

Anonymous, 18 May 2021Yet another cheap quality production without latest features Don't worry... Xiaomi will launch a similar one with better sound quality, all the supported features at half the price.

to me its just a marketing gimmick, tried it and didn't notice any different, same with flac and mp3, i literally can't hear any difference between them.

But Google Play services is not.

                  Same applies to LDAC.
If OEM does not pay Sony, it is not activated.

                      You don't understand,
when the global rollout of Apple Music Lossless begun, Apple will roll out Airpods Max Pro which will be sold for $999 and support lossless audio.
They might release Airpods ProPro for the small form factor.

So much for the great sounding Apple devices and the "Hi-fi" Airpods Max heaphones without a jack, lmao
I'm guessing apple will come up with another proprietary codec like AAC & then license/patent it to make even more 🤑💰.
I just can't stop laughing at the hypocrisy & how dumb some people can (pretend to) be, now they'll have another reason to upgrade to a new iphone + airpods combo for the "lossless" music which many till y'day claimed didn't make a difference, and AAC was enuf🤣😆

Anonymous, 18 May 2021Lossless audio is a marketing gimmick. There are plenty of ... moreLosseles audio is just that what it says. Duble blind, duble subjectiv non scientific studies don't have any value. I personally can distinguish 320 MP3s from CD quality flac quite easily and hi quality lossless master's from CD quality rather hardly with critical listening (higher volume levels) with deacent DAC and hedaphones.

Mediatek sux, 18 May 2021Ldac is now part of aosp. Its free for all manufacturers.Decoder part only is open sourced by Sony. LDAC is lossy lo complexity codec as all BT one's are.
Good old wired is need for lossless and still preferred material and format are 44100 Hz at 24 bit's which corresponds to 150 dB SINAD (best DAC's of today go up to 123 dB and best hedaphones can do about 115 dB staying in 1% THD range in lows). CD quality doesn't fit it either to call it true losseles (44100/16 is 96 dB SINAD while there are [rare] materials [philharmonic and some Dolby mixes] that go obove it).

Iphone don't support any bluetooth codec higher than AAC anyway lol what a high end device..

Apple reserved that for their upcoming airpods pro max for $999

Lossless audio is a marketing gimmick. There are plenty of double-blind studies that show that even people with peak hearing cannot reliably differentiate between 192 AAC and source, and by 320 it's impossible for the human ear to tell the difference. But marketing feeds the "golden ears" out there who insist that they hear the impossible.

Another instance of Apple creating and problem then selling expensive gadget to solve that problem

lol, the cheapest headphones with a jack support wired lossless, or semi-wireless (lossy) hi res, if you add some dac with ldac in and jack out.
My headphones can use ldac, jack and usbc and its not apple or sony... what a price for ''that''.
