You aren't going to get build qualify that lasts more than a couple years from Samsung, Apple, or any manufacturer other than Sony. Not to mention they all make round-edged, effeminate devices pre-loaded with bloatware that don't fit in pockets.
That said, I'm disappoinment there's no premium compact being released now. I'm currently using an xz1 compact. Still going strong but fast approaching the five year mark.

Your entire logic is based on some weird narrative that people have to buy new phone, if it stops getting updates.
Last year's phone doesn't stop working because it doesn't have latest version of Android.
There are plenty of people happily stuck on Marshmallow (Android 6.0).
They are doing just fine with everything working for them without any issues

I can 100% assure you that with a helio p35 chip, it won't last 5 years, not even 2.
If it had Snapdragon 730 series chip or a helio g95, then once can consider the possibility of it lasting 5+ years for basic use.
Sony simply cutting corners in areas they don't need to.
IP rating is useless. You drop that phone (Glass being glass, will break, no matter which version of gorilla glass one uses), your ip rating goes along with it

Yet people continue to get hacked via simple phising Links which have nothing to do with latest security patches.
People and businesses used their PCs fine for decades despite the specter and meltdown vulnerabilities with Intel.
And this concept of added protection by having latest security patches turns into nothing but a placebo effect for the masses if you really look at it

It's a low end device that is supposed to last long. Some people keep the same phone for 5+ years and go for the cheapest option. This phone has the latest GG, IP rating, big battery, and is compact with headphone jack. For $202, it's really not that bad of a phone with the exception of the display.
