I‘d like to think that this will be an American model. No coincidence that Xiomi has just been cleared of collusion with China. What better way to officially enter US market than with a cheap backup phone. The top end of our market is stratospheric, the bottom end is atrocious. If Xiomi links up with a Walmart or the equivalent it might work.

Just name it anything else. Going by your logic, they should also release a poco f1 2021 instead of f4 or f5. And every phone is supposed to be for profit. This is business not charity.
The other comment here makes sense. They're trying to use their stocks of chips and decided to use this old phone name.

They should have done something like this with the Mi 9 SE. An updated version with a SD 780 / 778 or D1100 / 1200.

Maybe as a superbudget device around 100-120$ to replace the redmi 9 it might be alright, but for anything more there will be better options.

G85 still better, it has cortex A75 and A55 2 generation newr than 665 and gpu performance is edaquate for light gaming

The only problem is that it is built on a 12nm process as opposed to 11nm in the SD. This means that it will run hotter than the SD665 and the battery life will also be reduced.
The Mali GPU is also faster than the Adreno. Qualcomm haven't been innovating in the entry level chips and others have been catching up. Check this site:

Original note also had the Splash Resistant nano coating even though GSMArena haven't listed it.
But I also prefer the original note.

I have 2019 version I'm very satisfied. Great battery with perfect 4K video resolution. I myself prefer the original version. Here is list of pros and cons of new version
Pros:
Splash resistance nano-coating
NFC in some countries [at least no NFC in my country Iran]
Android 11 (it is likely to be available for older Note too)
Cons:
No 4K (have fun with 1080 while your friends are recording in 4K or 8K :)
New version has Mediatek chip instead of Snapdragon. It has 1nm bigger chip and more unknown company than Qualcomm. So it's slower :)
Mali GPU which is slower than Adreno
Slower CPU (lower GHz)
Less variety in colors (this one not important because most of us use black or blue which is available in 2021 v)

You'd better grab Poco M3 or Redmi 9T, they are much better with UFS 2.1 and bigger battery, if you don't want to go to Poco X3 NFC or Redmi Note 9/10 Pro - those are certainly much better options.

This isn't a good Idea. What's the purpose of releasing two year old note 8 ? Better buy original note 8.
