Counterpoint: HMD shipped 2 million Nokia smartphones in Q1, up from 1.7 million a year ago

But it's not all good. The Nokia phones fell out of favor in India, but are doing well in Africa and parts of Europe.

This is HMD Global and not Nokia. HMD Global are ruining the brand name of legendary Nokia which we used to love decade ago. For last 20 years I had used only Nokia phones from Nokia 3310 (original) to Nokia 3 (2017). Nokia 3 with Android 9 OS and September 2020 security patch had reached its end of life and I wants to replace it with better phone. But none of their current phones justify the high price for the specifications offered. Negative things are more than positive things for HMD Global. Negative things first. Poor specifications, high price, poor software and hardware for the phone, delay in providing monthly security updates and OS updates. Only positive thing in these phones is Stock Android without any bloatware. Gone are the days when people used to buy phones blindly just for brand names. They launch low end phones with poor specifications at mid-range price. Other brands launch their phones 3 weeks after its announcement. But for HMD Global, this timeframe is 3 months. They launch too many phones with similar specifications at various price points with mostly older generation chipset and OS. Later they find it difficult to provide monthly security updates and OS updates to all these phones. Being Android One phone, people expect quick and regular monthly security updates and OS updates and for this reason they pay premium price for poor specifications phone. Instead of launching too many phones, they should launch few phones with proper specifications at correct price point.

No difference with competition. High prices compared to Xiaomi and realme. Their Feature phones are cheap too. No modern cameras to them, not 4g. Hmd will follow LG soon

Anonymous, 26 May 2021Not all are ODM, most are designed by HMDThat is not true. HMD outsource almost all their designs. That is by all them seems chinese generic phones. Because is what they are:

      https://nokiamob.net/2021/01/17/large-number-of-modern-phones-including-nokia-are-designed-by-odm-companies/

And in few months the next report probably will be even higher than the 88% ODM they resold as premium overpriced phones along last year.

Genuinely don't know why anyone would want to buy one of these poor devices when there's so much better available for similar money or less.

Gandalfdenvite, 26 May 2021My Nokia 8.1 is absolutely horrible, the worst phone I have... moreI am using 8.1 too but I am happy with it specially with the Camera.

My Nokia 3310 2017 is still great after almost 4 years. My Nokia 5.1 plus is still great after 2,5 years and still getting monthly security patches. My Nokia 9 Preview is still great since I bought it in January this year, and up to date. Reliable, sturdy and good, that's Nokia in a nutshell for me.

I don't trust this news. If they could sell that high, they will have many funds to make some great feature smartphones with accurate prices.
But what I see, they just release some overpriced low spec smartphones.
