Harmony OS will be a full straight on copy of Android. Everyone knows this. Under that 'hood' it will be identical....

I didn't pursue ping a home computer in the 1980's because the undercutting issue, add copying, and it stagnates thw market. Imagine, a msdos like cpm with multitasking windows for old cpm code. 80 column text, 256 colour mode in 160*200. In the early 80's nothing like it. Could virtually make a compiler that could compile the save code to it or PC. Believe it or not, that was radical for those days, before the Amiga. The stuff we missed out on. Thanks to geedy corporations, pushing garbage as modern.

[deleted post]Where? I looked hard at various Haiwei sites. No such acknowledgement at all! BTW, Harmony OS 1.0 and 2.0 are totally different. 1.0 is for LoT, and has source code, but 2.0 has not released source code yet.

[deleted post]I didn't see that stated anywhere. Latter, when they revealed what they were up to, then I saw it, but that's not day one.

Anonymous, 29 May 2021Jesus people, can you all stop whining about HarmonyOS not ... moreThat's a good point. But. If it's based on AOSP, is it going be free of any spyware (tracking etc) and built in/required services, so users can have complete privacy? That would get a major selling point. Of course manufacturers can still hide spying on phone be hardware as usual, but it's a step in the right direction. And are the services going be free and open, so anybody can sign up to, and independent private, services provider/s, with user accessible and backup locally, user data? Nokia would love that, and once somebody like Nokia is onboard with something like that, providing secure end to end services, it would really be something to take off. There is a need for an open privacy phone like this for computer professionals, business users, and geeks (though, you got to think sometimes, 'Really Man! How can you not know that, all the tracking scandals have been over the news for years, and you are treating it as a tinfoil hat fictional conspiracy!'. It's amazing how blinkered some of them are. 'No, no! Of course the companies and governments wouldn't do that! Maybe those news reports were written by the guys who wrote "The Matrix". Is that a more plausible theory?'). Anyway, Nokia could be the next Apple! 🙂.

But, it really needs to be a better OS, something on the level of QNX. The old tantric software related Amiga replacement libraries (some of which were in QNX). Realtime, robust, efficient secure. BlackBerry got hold of QNX. To an IT person, running Linux would be better than Android, even if it used JavaScript (in Firefox os) as a portable front end. I ran a word desktop like word processor on my phone. Things can be done. I'd rather cast Linux apps to a monitor and or TV and use a keyboard mouse, and ditch the computer more.

They were closing an upgrade to replace it, but didn't get an impression it was an upgrade of android. What happens to all your playstore purchases once you convert? Various people will be firm hundreds of dollars, even thousands. Huawei, to answer all its criticisms, is going have to complete divorce itself from harmony OS infrastructures and services and transfer them to a neutral country like Sweden, Switzerland or Iceland, and arrange with publishers to provide free downloads of existing playstore purchases. The situation is so hairy, the distribution of apps and services might have to be independent of the stores, with them just being front ends.
