Anonymous, 04 Nov 2021Lol @ "fictional" banks runs. They are certainly ... moreFictional as in very rare. Do you actually believe a whole population will all rush to get their money together, or even 90% of people, in the present age? People with $50 or lesser in their accounts are in millions here in India...
Secondly, nobody agrees with bloodshed and warfare, but truth is, currencies used to be backed by gold reserves in the 50's, I hope I've not forgotten history here? Today, the governments back it up. And no, its not your typical loan.
Let me tell you how:- If people take a loan and default, they can choose to escape or run. Countries can't run, my little friend. They just get auctioned in the classic WTO way. India is in debt, so why worry? Get a runway made for American Air Force, allow imports of our goods, do this, do that. Continue doing what we say, till you can't repay. And, don't forget India and Amercia are "friends"... wtf-riends!

You're confusing blockchain with bitcoin. I'm in 100% favour of blockchain's all possible usages, including one involving truth and justice, in addition to other uses.
As far as bitcoin is concerned, its only a sort of a huge gambling scheme. Of course, its value will rise... But what after that? Which country will be your slave, like India is to USA?

Doesn't it surprise you how Satoshi Nakamoto is untraceable? Why does he/they hide? A little common sense should clarify it all, or doesn't it?

Blockchain is a piece of art. Bitcoin is gambling, of course some will win.

Comment on professors only if you are one yourself. Without that, no sir, you don't get the right. You're just not born our judges, no matter what they have you believe. I can't write a book here, my friend.

They are certainly real and have happened many times since the dawn of the fractional reserve system. Seems you forgot a bit of the history of econ, Mr. Prof. Also, good to know you are morally aligned with a currency backed by blood and warfare. Glad you are teaching the blossoming new generations. Blockchain is probably the most transformative technology created in the 21st century so far, as it can be applied to many sectors other than currency (healthcare records, non-fungible tickets for events, etc). One day you might see the beauty of bitcoin, but when that days comes I'm afraid you will be left behind in the dust.

Anonymous, 02 Jun 2021And what exactly is backing up the Dollar, mister Economist... moreThe whole US Government, real, actual people are backing the US Dollar as opposed to Bitcoin. I hope I was specific.

And secondly, let's not go in for fictional situations like everyone withdrawing their cash together, why should such a widespread fear happen?
And I'll tell you what will happen if this happens. Simply speaking, the bank won't pay up to majority of the people, and will be slightly less reliable, and that's about it. Currency is not likely to be affected. I have real life cases in example, this happened in India recently.

PS: I'm actually a College Professor of Economics.

You know, the currency that gets printed unlimited times and loses value every second. Or how about everyone withdraws their Dollars at the same time from the bank, you will be in for a big surprise. "As usual with GPUs in the past few years availability will likely be limited."

art, 02 Jun 2021They keep announcing products that only 5% will ever get. T... moreI find it funny that people still think AMD is this underdog...AMD is much bigger than peopls think and they CHOOSE not to focus on GPU's for the general public. They do make high end hardware that we can't buy, and then they are helping do OE stuff for console manufacturers but for the most part they are focusing on Ryzen and pushing Intel out. This is the logical move as processors are not as niche as high end GPU's targeted at gamers, obviously GPU's can do more than just play games but most tasks that people need accomplished are CPU based. Of course there's people out there who legitimately can justify a Titan as a tax write off, but I digress. AMD isn't some third rate company struggling to keep up, they cornered Intel in a matter of a few years, and are content to play the same game with Nvidia each generation. If there's anything to be frustrated about it's the fact that China tried to keep Covid-19 under wraps and ended up shutting down countless supply chains including the ones that would have probably struggled to keep up in the first place. You either do what the crazy people are doing and get your hands on a card, or you stop complaining.

I won't give you a lesson on economics by saying that crypto is a bubble and not even a single dollar of asset is behind most of the cryptocurrencies including bitcoin, and that's why you must'nt even support it for a minute, leave along earning from it, because its useless, you seem an unethical, totally practical guy.

Let me clarify one thing: The problem is not miners using this for whatever hell of a noble cause you're making it to be. The problem is scalpers who're overcharging for these GPU's by snatching the entire market supply at once.

These GPU's have a price and you're making it sound legal to overcharge on it.
Don't support illegal activity, have this much shame at least.

They keep announcing products that only 5% will ever get. That's beyond infuriating to be part of a monopoly where Nvidia rides on a white horse while Amd is on foot.

I personally can't stand low FPS while gaming, so it's a must to have hardware that can run games at the FPS I want. 30 is not enough, 60 is not enough. About 100 and up is good, since the gameplay starts to feel very smooth at about 100 FPS. Sure, you can deal with about 2-year old tech if you turn down the settings - it's not completely necessary to have the latest parts, if you bought decent high-end ones to begin with.

Anonymous, 01 Jun 2021Lol, what part of "I am not miner" don't you... moreNever was successful to go down to the level of consoles, sometimes I use it as a meme to have fun, because that's what it's meant for. I hear they finally got 60 frames support, which must be lovely. Anyway moving on....

You are 'completely wrong' about the target people technology is meant for. I am not crying for this, I actually weep for humanity. Something worthy comes along you say? You think bitcoin will be limited to gpu only? It'll utilise other hardware parts too in future.

Anyway, it's stupid to discuss about gaming with a non gamer, so good luck. Like I said have the fun while you still can.

Just announced, but already sold out for the next 2-3 years. Damn you miners buying all the GPUs.

Umm gaming isnt the only one. So many work in the 3d environment from CGI to game development, medicine, archeology, architecture, etc. The GeForce series are budget friendly compared to quadro, those are really for studios and CAD users so geforce they come at the cost of vram. You could go for Radeon for a slightly bigger vram but they have stability issues with 3d programs.

And of course Nvidia pretends to solve the issue , but ofc they also "leak" the beta drivers that reenable mining.

You're such a funny bunch. Acting all high and mighty against console gamers , when it is your turn to get some metaphorical beating you end up being the weakest of them all.

Relax, just lower the resolution or whatever for a time. The forefront of technology is meant for industrious people. There is nothing industrious in siting in you bunk and fragging fools online all the while posting marginally better framerate.

Just but a 2080 ti, I hear they suck at mining and they are 80% the way of new cards. You imagine faults on others because finally you have some competition on some pretty nifty technology. Bleh.
