Apple announced some changes with core iOS apps, Facetime revamped, playing catch-up with Android.

        Anonymous, 08 Jun 2021You mean getting latest features 5-10yrs late? Security patching is one of the most fundamental "features" of a modern operating system. Apple has just announced that devices that shipped with iOS 9 will receive their 6th major OS update. And they will continue to provide backports for two years once the phones are no longer officially supported by iOS 16.

        It is a given that the SE and 6s/6s+ will still be receiving security patches in 2024, a full 9 years after they were released. That is an incredible run. Most of the new features are just noise, same as any Android phone where you might not even get 9 months of security patches. What an incredible ROI we are getting out of the 6s generation.

                One of the most common argument is that Android had all those features years before iOS/iPadOS but see it from another perspective. My iPad Air 2 still gets the latest iPadOS 15 despite having being released in 2014. If I had bought an Android device in 2014 what would be this Android device in 2021?... the short answer is a useless, museum item. The iPad Air 2 is still running pretty well for its age while still getting all the latest security updates and features. It's a device to have for life not just for a season.

                  I like iOS14. I won't be updating. Probably my favorite update from iOS like Pie was for Android. I think a lot of updating is meaningless. You won't really see any major changes until like 3 to 4 generations later. By then, you already have a new phone.

                    I actually use Apple Maps to do DoorDash deliveries and it's totally fine. Both Google Maps and Apple Maps have their flaws and I have no problem with both. When I first started, I didn't know the streets yet around my area. Now I do. So I tend to use them less and only when I'm getting closer to the drop-off. But back in 2017, Google Maps and Apple Maps voice navigation used to frustrate me like 10-15% of my deliveries.

                                    The best feature of iOS 15:

                                    It will support the iPhone SE and iPhone 6s/6s+.

                                    Phones old enough to be going to first grade will be getting another year of mainstream software support. And then another 2 years of security updates beyond that.
