Isommers1, 10 Jun 2021Wow, data and Android apps still work after the phone gets ... moreWhy are you spamming this post? We get it you think HarmonyOS is Android, which it's not.
I am a mobile system developer and it's not android, I read the code, it shares many similar components but the whole architecture and libraries are new.
Add to that that even if it's android, I don't see the issue here? Almost all linux distros started being a fork of something else. Ubuntu itself started as a branch of Debian, but after some time they grow with different visions and become completely different with time.
I see Harmony Os similarly, it's actually a very smart move to be natively compatible with Android apps, this way people can migrate easily.
You expect it to be completely new with zero apps and no compatibility with any OS to be happy? I am sure you would trash it anyway because of that.
Harmony OS or any other OS is a choice to customers, I don't get why you guys are moaning about it, if you don't like it don't buy it that's all, it's an alternative to android and ios and for me it's a win for us users.

uk7866, 10 Jun 2021Must say that's very impressive. It's not impressive at all. HarmonyOS is literally just Android, but they replaced the word "android" in the code with "HarmonyOS." It's the same thing. Samsung phones use a skin called "OneUI"—they don't lose data or break apps when they get updates either…because it's still Android. There's absolutely nothing shocking or surprising about this at all given how much HarmonyOS is still Android.

Acorns, 10 Jun 2021This feels like windows phone deja vu and quite honestly ju... moreHarmonyOS is literally Android. Similar to how Amazon's FireOS is also literally Android (it is Android, it runs Android apps), HarmonyOS is EVEN CLOSER to stock Android than FireOS is (which is fairly locked down). But it's the exact same codebase with very minor tweaks. They didn't magically create a brand new OS that "just happens" to be perfectly compatible with basically every Android app in existence. They basically renamed Android to "HarmonyOS" and added a few software tweaks—which almost every major Android smartphone maker already does. This isn't a new OS—it's still Android.

Wow, data and Android apps still work after the phone gets an updated version of LITERALLY Android that has had the word "android" replaced with "HarmonyOS"? I'm SHOCKED.

This feels like windows phone deja vu and quite honestly jus one massive headache. Unless you are either a MASSIVE Huawei fan or someone who is prepared to take a huge risk that developers will decide to make apps for harmony OS then personally I would say leave well alone and stick to a phone that can run Google services. As an ex windows phone user who loved the OS but like many other users had to sit and watch apps appear on the play store and Apple store and never make it to windows phones I would stick with an established OS that you know will get the apps you want. ANY OS will ultimately live or die by the apps it supports and unless Huawei can somehow persuade developers to make official apps for harmony then it will only be a feasible OS for China imo.

As an owner of Honor V30, I would like Honor to at least give a choice between the two.
Fated to receive Harmony in Q4 21, it's too far and it feels strange that the 2019 Honors will be the only one to not receive gms.

All the apps including gms required apps which I were using on EMUI 11 are still running as is after upgrading to harmony os.
I like the new UI better. Also battery life is improved, 30% more the end of day.
Overall no regret for upgrade even it is still public beta.

Ok. But, what about all the other data on goggle servers, and other accounts and devices which need to be transfered over to convert to Harmony? Is happy going raid Google servers to get that off of them? I imagine there is stuffing the services agreement about that?
There maybe other licensing issues against moving the app from Playstore and services too. Some sneaky app providers don't like their app data and user data, being accessed or otherwise revealed, covered under the millennium copyright Act reverse engineering and security stuff after 9/11. Which could be federal offences.

yes, but if you have very new apps that are made for Android 11/12 and newer they wont work since Harmony is based on the 2-year-old android 10.
