    Dan, 19 Jun 2021If I understood you correctly what you are trying to say is... moreOr going to all the possible alternatives that are much better, in my first comment in this thread the two links I provided show two solutions that achieve the same goal of full and uninterrupted display + front facing camera, the Samsung solution in particular is quite cheap as it is simple yet efficient :
    The display is as normal when the camera is not in use, the picture quality isn't affected while being compatible with 3D face recognition, it is totally privacy-friendly as the camera literally can't see as it has something in front of it.
    There is the pop up who beg to be improved, like my electromagnetic pop up concept who allow for 100% water-resistance and virtually no wear + being easy to replace, cheap to make and superfast to actuate :

    And many other solutions that are much better and most are cheaper.

    Some, like a direct retinal projector, would be more expensive, but the user would see basically the same thing as Tony Stark :

      The iPhone X should have had the display around the notch as a totally not addressable and only displaying the status icons, in two lines (as there are too few in a single line) and simply rotating the icons with the phone orientation.
      This way it would have been a bezel that can pull the status icons out of the display to gain space, and not something that get inside the display.
      Like the notch hider apps do :

      And this is considering that the icons are larger than the one in the iPhone 7.

      The bezel was never a problem to begin with.
      The only option I find as good as no front camera at all would be this (a notch with all the 3D face recognition sensors, dual lines icons) with a motorized camera hider for privacy.

So instead we need to figure out other easier and cheaper means and improve on them instead. Am I right?

          It cost A LOT, just the R&D itself is stupid expensive, remember that this is seen as the holy grail, meaning that TONS of money is put into it, and despite years of research it is constantly pushed to latter unlike many better techs which are quite easy to develop, unlike the Axon 20 which is for sure sell at a loss only for making the claim as being the first to have made this tech and using people as beta testers, I can guarantee you that the required return on investment caused by this tech will hit HARD on us.

          Not everything can be improved to a much better result, some things only have a limited maximum yield.
          Here, the concept it to see through a solid and non 0% opaque material, yes in 100 years we could achieve 100% transparent pixels through special means (like glass like material reacting to a specific targeted energy (electromagnetic, electric, thermal, etc) to produce the desired colors and brightness while being 0% opaque when not used) but by then we would have much better than displays and front cameras anyway.
          As for now, the concept is stupid not just for the cost, but also because it makes a visible spot on the display that has a quite low pixel density and a quite bad color and brightness matching with the rest of the display.
          AND it is horribly bad for privacy as the camera make it easy to forget it look at you, while at the same time there are totally false rumors that it can't see you when the pixels are lit, which is totally wrong.

More expensive and perform worse. The manufacturers will rush this into as many phones as possible long before the tech is at parity with the current solutions. I am not interested in paying more for something that is less reliable.

                    They should focus on solutions like the Google and Samsung ones, which achieve the same end goal but are better in every imaginable ways.

                          Its just the quality is too shit for samsung or apple flagships to use.

Thinking you have clean uninterrupted display and then have a square shimmering inside the actual display because of different pixels, it would annoy me so much. But it'll be great once they solve that too and pixels over camera won't look any different. Then it'll be pretty sweet. No popup cameras, no flipping cameras, no notches, no punch holes, just clean uninterrupted display all the way. Only thing that will suck then is picking up the phone right way because it'll look the same both ways. Notch helps quite a bit instantly spotting if it's rotated away from user...

                                  It's all personal but for me that selfie camera could vanish completely. Thanks

                                      I don't care if selfie cam makes photos that look like they were shot through lens smeared with vaseline. I'm a bit annoyed by that square with different pixels over the selfie lens tho. Far more than with notches or punch holes actually.
