Jio can be up only till then when modijee is in power becuse Congress also launch Akash tablet which is cheapest tablet which any student can buy. And their mobiles were manufactured by chinese companyies and they were talking about to not purchase chinese mobiles what about their black and white mobile of jio which even come from china. If they made mobile in India with Indian brand that is fine other wise our economy money to china is worthless mobile

Anyhow, we're likely looking at maybe a sub 5k device, which maybe combined with 1-2 year Jio contract, the phone itself may be free for the public like last time.

[deleted post]If 2G, 3G, 4G are your benchmarks for poverty then how do you view the fact that Reliance Jio alone has over 400million 4G subscribers (more than the entire US population) ??

TheLastOracle, 24 Jun 2021Why should your opinion on what people buy matter to them? ... moreIt should not cost above 50USD at any cost.

Rk100, 24 Jun 2021This phone will sell like crazy, India is a massive country... moreCertainly 300 million won't buy this phone. If Airtel hikes the tariffs of minimum recharge by huge amount in next two months, then Jiophone(keypad ones)will sell like hotcakes. This should not cost more than 3500 if it has Snapdragon 4** chipset or Meditek/Unisoc chipset.

The Android Freak, 24 Jun 2021Still people should not pay for this according to me, no ma... moreWhy should your opinion on what people buy matter to them? They will buy what seems like the best deal. Of which you have absolutely no idea, as does everyone else. Atleast until JIO announces the price and features.

The Android Freak, 24 Jun 2021Still people should not pay for this according to me, no ma... moreWhy? Just because it has very low end specs, people shouldn't buy it? This will be less than ₹4000 bucks and there are so many people in India in small towns and villages who can't afford spending money on cheapest realme or xiaomi... Jio can't totally make everyone to switch to a smartphone because some people just dont want to but there a lot people who want to but wasn't able to because of low income, this device will help those

[deleted post]Or more like, they haven't been tempted to use something else, since the government created payment platform apparently does the job equally well, and thus faster phones weren't considered necessary by this group. India has one of the highest 4G consumption in the world, so this seems like a natural transition.

I hope they revolutionize the 4g phone market again

[deleted post]telecom is a private sector. What does it have to do with space travel which is public? plus giving those 300 mil people 7$ each won't get them to 4g miraculously

Nowhere did it even mention 5G or any snapdragon cpu, and given that "they" (the company not some random leakster) said that it's going to be the "cheapest smartphone" it's sure that it would no way have 5G or SD480, etc cpu

Samath N8 808 owner, 24 Jun 2021Well, I heard some rumours about Snapdragon 480 (5G) and Ji... moreSd 480 is on par with sd 730. It can run android 10 much more than just manageably. So, its also less likely that its gonna be available for less than 10k.

The Android Freak, 24 Jun 2021This is probably 4G only phone. Android Go. Trash processor... moreWell, I heard some rumours about Snapdragon 480 (5G) and Jio, so that's what I thought.
But SD480 as such doesn't need to run Android Go, it can run proper Android 10 as well, albeit manage-ably at best.

Even on google-ing, I could find reliable 5-6 news sites like livemint, India today and so, directly using the word "JioPhone 5G" and 5G is going to be launched anyways.. so..

But of course, you may be right. First Jiophone targeted around Rs. 1500 price point (but free on contract), so this likely won't be too high. For a SD480 device, we need it to be at least Rs. 7000, so we might be looking at a very budget device.
