      Here in Germany, Media Markt and Saturn are offering the phones and will be delivered by 1st week of August. Unappetizing bundle, though. Will wait for Ebay sellers... So will stick with my XZ Premium a bit longer. Ugh.

        Really? You make it sound like Sony has some relevancy in Japan.
        Last time I checked...

        Apple = 67.33% (American)

        Sony = 8.51% (Japanese)

        Samsung = 5.79% (Korean)

        Huawei = 4.96% (Chinese)

        Sharp = 2.11% (Japanese)

        Others = 3.96%

        Sony has as much relevance as Chinese and Korean brands, both being on the lower side

              Curved screen costs more than flat counterpart.
              Notch and hole increase the price of screen.
              More Hertz ncrease price.
              8GB ddr5 is 25% more expensive than 8GB ddr4x.

              Few years ago, with $300 you could buy best components available.
              Now you need about $600.

              I doubt that in 2017, anyone would believe in 2020/21 OnePlus and Xiaomi would charge 1000 euros or more for their phones.

                No mediatek now can support DDR5.
                No has support for 4K@120 or 8K video.
                Slower 5G modem.
                Crappy Mali GPUs that are years behind Adreno.

                Triple ISP of Qualcomm let you use 3 cameras same time, it is not just support for triple cam. You can even do triple video, if the OEM wants.

                Snapdragon will always be better than Exynos, Dimensity and Kirin.
                Their fault. Not Qualcomm's.

                Sony, Motorola, Oppo, Vivo, OnePlus, Xiaomi, Samsung, Zte will never use mediatek on flagships.
                No matter how many of you can cry and blame Qualcomm for expensive phones when the other components are what make phones this expensive.

                    Midranges always reach market earlier than flagships, because that are much more chips available from 6xx and 7xx series.

                            Mediatek provides updates during years. Mt6737 was released with Android 6.0. Some devices d'un Android 10.0...but true, OEM often don't provide updates. Is it Mediatek's fault?

                            Qualcomm? More features? Which ones?
                            True you get a little better framerate, but that's not a feature.
                            Triple ISP on 888 is available since years on Mediatek's. Today D1000/1100/1200 have 3+2 ISP (kind of big.LITTLE)
                            HDR multiframe video recoding on 888 was already available last year on D1000+
                            Maybe 8k recording...but what for?

                            Mediatek offers AV1 hardware decoding even on midrange (D900), even SD888 doesn't!...this is feature!

                              In Taiwan, chinese flagships are irrelevant. The most popular flagships there are Xperia.

                              Japan + Taiwan are much more than 50% of Xperia sales.
                              Nothing is gonna change.

                                  Good luck Sony... selling Xperia 1 III for 1300 euros.
                                  Most people will buy MI 11 ultra or s21 ultra at that price since these are the top brands in 2021.

                                  In Europe, if one chooses to buy from online retailers like TradingShenzhen or wondamobile or giztop, one can get it MI 11 ultra 850 euros complete with charger, warranty, etc

                                        Also, cheaper CPU does not mean any OEM would charge less.
                                        They can easily keep this difference to them and sell for same price.

                                        Lower price does not mean better sales.
                                        Otherwise 1ii would not sell more than 1.

                                        CPU is not what is making phones so expensive today.
                                        But screens with curves, 120/144/240Hz, more and larger cameras, faster RAM and storage, larger batteries etc ..

                                        Bill of materials of Note 20 Ultra is $548. It is just the components. Nothing else included.
                                        That is more than retail price of A72.
