Anonymous, 27 Jun 2021Nox player, bluestacks, virtual box android x86,.... am I a... moreActually I have problems running vms on my pc. Idk why but it always ends up in a blue screen so honestly for me, running Android apps natively it's a plus and a welcome. I know there are some Linux add-ons that do that too but I mostly work in Windows so it's convenient for me. If it works I don't want to change it. I just hope it won't be a pain in the ass like windows 10 with its updates. Every time they start running, my pc slows down and I can't say I run on old hardware because I have the top of the line Ryzen 2 CPU with decent memory, so idk what's wrong with it but it's annoying and I hope it won't be the same for 11 as well. But time will tell.

Anonymous, 26 Jun 2021Windows 11 is pointless. Good luck with that webcam policy ... more"Not even all flagship laptops have a good webcam or let alone the webcam itself"
And that's why MS is enforcing manufacturers to put at least decent quality webcam on all laptops by that time. This is one area most Windows laptops fall behind recent M1-powered Apple devices (including MBA and MBP with a highly criticised low res 720p camera) - Those built-in webcams are just awful in quality. MS is feeling a heat and they know it.

Mikeromeoz, 25 Jun 2021...here we go again. Let's just get some things straig... moreBy definition a compatibility layer may have an arbitary level of integration to the main OS. That is, it can be just as minimal and invisible as the Android framework running on Windows 11, or go slightly deeper and allows command line operations like WSL, or just run a whole lot different set of apps and systems inside a separate container like Harmony OS.
In any of those cases, apps that run on the compatibility layer will not be able to observe what is happening outside that layer, so naturally report that they are running on Android/Linux when asked by a user.
Go try out the Harmony native Weibo app on your Android phone and then tell me about your experience, because a simple 'fork' of Android will never be able to run it.

If Windows 11 run on Arm and can run Android apps, it would be possible to make a lighter version for a new windows phone. The big drawback of previous Windows phones was most apps were not available for them. Problem solved.

Mikeromeoz, 25 Jun 2021...here we go again. Let's just get some things straig... moreAre you actually serious? That is exactly what HarmonyOS is doing, it has a compatibility layer based on the Android 10 OS framework that is there to run Android apps WHEN NEEDED.
In the case of Harmony OS apps, they use their own framework and the OS is quite different, with some advanced sharing options and less memory and CPU usage (most P and Mate series users that upgraded claim about 30% increase in battery and 30%-40% memory usage and storage with the same apps installed).
Those geniuses from Arstechnica and XDA you mentioned used Android apps to recognize if the system runs a different OS.... What would you think would happen? It will use the Android 10 compatibility layer and say it is Android 10. Try running an HarmonyOS app on Android and see it not running because it is A DIFFERENT OS.

Alboooz , 25 Jun 2021Neah, that's not fair imposing user's to use adve... moreThey are not imposing, this is just a more official way of using Android apps with a reliable store they worked together with. You can still install apk files from anywhere.
They might even include Samsung Galaxy Store or Google Play support in the future.

Windows 11 is pointless. Good luck with that webcam policy which will take effect on 2023. Not even all flagship laptops have a good webcam or let alone the webcam itself. Also heard there will be one more policy but I forgot what it was.
