Starsplash, 02 Jul 2021This could be the end of side loading apps on your android ... moreActually i don't think so, if the case like Huawei, apk sideloading still possible, Huawei has their own app store and app extension, but still allowing Apk sideloading on their policy evetough not the same like on Normal Android phone
And because of EU policy, google may not enforce AAB at all, they must allow other App store which use APK to become other app store option, if google fault it they need to pay high fine, that's why Apple CEO is very worry about the security because of this EU Policy, iOS in the future must open other source to download app instead of just AppStore only
The simple word: AAB is more like google app extension, just like huawei own app extension, the bad news, some developer may only distribute to GPlay due to biggest market share and not really concern about other app store, if there are developer share the APK, you need to thank and support the developer since this will be rare case

If your device is Google certified, you won't be able side load and not be able install APK files. The agenda from Google is beginning of locking down the OS. It is more seedy than you have thought. Google is minipulating what you can and can't do on your device. The end of freedom to do what you want to install on your device. Google may as well to be another iOS locked down OS. People need to wise up to what Google are about to achieve. Think about it...

You have no clue to ... morethis is being enforced at the same time as the win11 announcement, google is doing ths so that windows cant gain a foothold in the education segment since it will not have acess to play store aps. chrome os having android apps from the app store is a benefit for them. and they would naturally want to maintain that advantage

Anyone who says aab isn't a superior format really has no idea about Android dev. The big issue with this move isn't forcing devs to change the format, no one is looking at the bigger picture. What will happen when we receive an Android version that does not allow installation of APKs? If we go with a fork of android, it's surely will NOT include gms. Google has already made it very difficult to bypass safetynet. Might as well be officially iOS...

Isn't this news is already outdated. I've been used to backup and restore some apps & games with .apks format which is just apks in zip container.
Use app called SAI to do those things.

Lilian, 02 Jul 2021So Google is pretending that stores are officially "al... moreI think almost everyone has misunderstood the technology, the aab format isn't proprietary and it isn't extra work for the devs to export into that format, I'm not an expert but with the few basic Android apps that I made, I had the option to export them as apk and as aab, it doesn't mean that if they switch to aab, they won't be able to export their apps as apks for other stores etc.
The other part that others were complaining, that it needs internet access to install, I guess it's because you can't save an optimized apk from one device and send it to other phones to install. Yeah the extracted optimized apk will work for your device and devices with about the same criteria.
You can't directly install aab files from your phone, you need the bundletool to do that, from there you can covert the aab fule to a master apk or optimized apks with your criteria, I don't know if with this or another tool, if you can merge various optimized apks to make a master apk. Sadly, as far as I know you can't download aab directly from play store.
