wbpwns, 02 Jul 2021Hmm. Interesting that I missed that google article here and... moreYup, those kinds of things are easy to miss, mainly here where GSMArena "hide/obscure" it by mainly talking about the Google Foldable, and they cover stuffs that aren't related to phones but miss things like that.
The Meizu 16 bezels were indeed nice, the gaming phones of the same era (Red Magic, Black Shark 3) was also where it did start, sadly it didn't really kicked out.
Sony latest Mk3 phones have slim bezels.
Personally, I'd still prefer a useful bezel loaded with features like the Google Pixel 4/4XL and Galaxy S8/S9 over any notch or punch hole ever.
But my favorite is also the second display on the back.
Take the Mi 11 Ultra and make that back display slightly bigger, so it doesn't need a front camera anymore, and it is perfect, the only other changes I would like for it to be my ideal phone would be a flat display, an ultrasonic FPS and a 3.5mm Jack, it hasn't been 3 months since I got my Poco F2 Pro and I already did encounter a situation where charging and having a headphone jack was useful, for multiple days straight.

Dudenoway, 02 Jul 2021Tbh well I didn't say anything against ur point but ok... more"Disappearing camera" is the name given to all "underdisplay camera" that don't directly look through the display itself, I gave two links for two different exemples.
One is from Samsung which is like a pop up but inside the phone where you have a small display between a punch hole and the camera.
The other by Google is a periscope, which can either show by reflection a camera or a display.
Both cameras disappear in a way or another and are much better than the "see through" underdisplay camera.
So unlike the underdisplay camera that stay there, this one, in a way or another, "disappear".
It is much simpler to make, it doesn't cause any visible defects on the display, the camera quality don't suffer at all, and it guarantees front facing camera privacy.
Apparently you haven't at all, I already said a billion times, NO SINGLE SOLUTIONS IS BETTER, we need DIVERCITY, meaning A BIT OF EVERYTHING.
This DOES include pop up indeed, but also punch holes, notches, bezels, underdisplay camera (any types) and every other alternatives like no front camera (with or without a second display on the back or other alternatives).

I would like to have an animated 3d video to have a better idea if I would prefer that.
My fave is still dual display and/or flip cam followed by pop-up cam followed by meizu 16 series bezels

Dudenoway, 02 Jul 2021Ahh I fkng remember u from all those articles of ud camera.... moreNot everyone, many still want bezel, one misconception is that I am "Pro X or Y feature", while in reality I am for the market giving availability to a bit of everything, this includes bezels and punch holes/notches, but also underdisplay camera.
Though, the disappearing camera reach the exact same result with virtually no negative points, which is why I advocate it against the "see through" underdisplay camera.

So, as usual :
Underdisplay camera are the worse, the much better alternatives of Samsung and Google disappearing camera are where it is at :

They are simpler, cheaper, they don't cause a visible ugly square on the display, the picture quality is normal, and they respect privacy.
And if you are new here :
Underdisplay camera privacy issue come from the cognitive bias caused by not seeing the camera together with the totally false rumor that "it can't see when the display is on" which is totally false.
From a user point of view who want bezelless, holeless, notchless fulldisplay, disappearing camera do the same job, but with only pros instead of cons.
Flip up, Pop up camera, Sliders and No front camera are still a much better alternative than the "look through the display" type of underdisplay camera.
Also, the bezel, if it ain't broken, don't fix it.
