Next year's iPhone will use a 4nm chipset, the iPad Pros will get more advanced 3nm chips

02 July 2021
Intel has also secured a large order of 3nm chips from TSMC for laptop and server CPUs, however, the iPads should make it to market first.

Longevity is the reason why I choose Apple. Don't get me wrong. I do miss watching all videos on my Androids. All my favorite movies and books are on it. They actually serve better as multimedia players. I usually download Loki episodes using my Flud app. I use HideMe to hide my VPN.

So my Android are always around when I need them. But just for daily routine stuff, I could see myself using iPhones as daily drivers for years to come and iOS wouldn't annoy me like it did before. My Apple Watch is what brought me back. I love checking my heart rate, steps, and controlling my iPhone's music with it. Cost me less than a Fitbit.

Like MacBooks, iPhones lasts for years. You pay the premium but you get longer software support. You can just walk inside an Apple Store and get them fixed or the battery replaced. With Android, it can be a crap shoot. And Android has less interesting accessories.

I'm starting to believe the iPhone SE from 2016 is the greatest smartphone ever made or at least the greatest iPhone ever made. Yes, battery is pretty bad on iOS 14.6. But battery was never great especially if location services were on when I had it on 10.2.6. But iOS10 got laggy visiting Twitter because Safari needed to be updated.

I just love the design and also feel the phone. I use it daily next to my 12 mini which serves as my daily driver and the SE really isn't that far behind with an older SoC from 5 years prior. SE1 just feels so much better in my hand that when I start using my Essential Phone which is wide and heavier, it feels cumbersome. Even 12 mini can feel a tad awkward again. The SE1 was the perfect size for one hand.

SE1 has the same exact software and apps as my 12 mini. Same homescreen arrangement and I really don't see much difference except camera. Amazing for 5 years. Prefer that headphone jack and Touch ID. Face ID gets annoying since I still wear a mask.

Both Apple and Samsung limit the thermals around 45ish degrees, while others let it reach even beyond 70°C, which is absurd and no matter how many "heat pipes" or "cooling chambers" or "liquid cooling" or whatever marketing slang they use it does not work to keep the SoC cool at those absurd temps.

The only phone that does have real cooling are the ones with a fan.

So this is how Intel is going to get back at AMD - buy their way into TSMC's favour, then use their new nodes against AMD.

I hope Sammy actually manages to make good GAA-FET's. Otherwise TSMC's position as "Kingmaker" will lead to even more monopolization in consumer electronics.

Android--Master, 02 Jul 2021As I said the temperatures you mentioned are well within op... moreIt being "within operational limits" doesn't mean it won't cause battery degradation. Battery degradation is always happening, and the rate of said degradation is always affected by it's own temperature, as you yourself just admitted (Saying that they might need a "cheap battery replacement")

Plus, playing games is much more energy-intensive than most other tasks, which means you have to recharge the battery more often. This also negatively impacts the degradation of the battery.

You don't need to deny physics in order to try "pwning" your favourite OS's competitor. Apple is known for deliberately retaining/introducing "features" that cause hardware failures which require expensive repairs. Just point that out, instead of making a fool of yourself.

It's crazy how SoCs are getting smaller and smaller. Maybe I should upgrade next year since all flagships will be on the 4nm bandwagon.

To be clear, Intel's 10nm is not equal to everyone else's. Intel's is better and can't be compared nm to nm. The other fabs are doing a branding of their inferior processes. Intel is going to be rebranding their fab processes as a response to this.

There are mechanisms in every phone to prevent damage to every component.

The idea that your battery will be damaged because of you playing a heavy game is largely a myth. In the worst case scenario, your battery might need a replacement which is super cheap compared to replacing the processor.

I get that Iphone always sucks at sustaining performance bcuz of bo cooling system. But i know their reason for not putting a cooling system. Putting a cooling system means spreading the heat from the processor to the other parts of the phone so the processor is gonna be cooler, but doesn't mean it will cool it off, it just spreads it. Apple cares for the longevity of their phones as evidenced by their 5 years updates, but also battery. Apple doesn't want the heat from the processor to touch the battery, so that the heat won't damage the battery. I have proof as i used Iphone x before, and the heat of cpu reaches 46°C while the battery is around 37°C after 30 minutes of pubg. So maybe the performance drops and one area of phone is super hot, but at least, the battery is untouched (if battery reaches above 40°C, it will start to degrade). So apple didn't put cooling to prevent heat from touching the battery, and just wants the heat to stay in the processor area. My Poco F1, after playing pubg 30 minutes like iphone x with same settings and room temperature, the processor is at 41°C, but the battery is also at 41°C, so the heat id spreaded to battery due to the cooling. Anyways that's only my hypothesis from my testing.
