The Sony Xperia 1 III will launch in Europe in August, Xperia 5 III gets delayed to September

02 July 2021
Originally, the two phones were set to become available in early August, but Sony changed its plans at the last moment.

The price in the UK is too high relative to the US, even taking VAT into account. Sony needs to watch it, the Pixel 6 may be known in depth by then.

I'm not denying that the auto mode on Sony phones are behind other flagships, but he posted pics about how terrible auto mode is and got caught lying when someone looked at the EXIF data. Like how bored do you have to be to tweak a photo and say it was in auto mode.

Who are u referring to? If you're talking about me, I never said Sony has the perfect smartphone photography. They have the best autofocus in a smartphone imo and great colour accuracy. Their auto mode needs work, I don't have problems admitting this.

"It is utterly stupid to deny the fact that Sony never was good in it and will never be."

They aren't the best, but decent. Saying they will never be good is pretty stupid of you, there's always potential for them to improve their smartphone photography.

"I know it's hard for you to accept the reality."

      Ok?

"So maybe just keep dreaming and go on thinking that Sony is great in smartphone photography :). Cheers!"

I love how throughout the entire post, you never addressed the situation that I was referring to. Keep diverting from the topic and hide the fact that you lied. Cheers!

Are you aware that the world is not revolving around US?

In Europe that where Sony, most people buy their phone outright without carrier subsidizes. Do you know that?

Sony still bring to the table what many people want, like headphone jack, Micro SD card, no hole, no notch.

Except Sony fan, they will buy everything.
Normal people sometime see and want to buy Sony, but also because they're not Sony fan, when they want to buy something, it's better be alvailable, or they will go with other options.

Hildr, 05 Jul 2021Ho at the time I didn't compare Mate 10 pro to Xperia ... moreAt some point, I do agree a bit about Mate 10 Pro image processing. Mostly because of the EMUI 8.1 AI scene implementation for the first time in a Huawei phone, previous Huawei's image processing are a bit laid back. I remember my older Honor 8 Pro shipped with EMUI 7.0, after updated to EMUI 8.1, image processing are quite heavy than before. But it gets better afterwards, with bunch of firmware update.

About P30 Pro, when u said 'but the vibe of the shot were not to my pleasing; also the phone felt not balanced in hand, waterfall screen and notch', I think if you fiddle enough on how to use it properly, it will be a lot better than Xperia 1. My method, turn off Master AI, hold on the screen till both light metering & focus area icon appear, easy to control both light & shadow, image will produced without looking flat. A bit of play on the shutter speed on Pro Mode can create great effects. Plus on hardware alone, P30 Pro are better in everyway, in every focal length. The rest of your complains basically are just preferences.

'Nice insta btw, but pretty sure the camera quality/phone process is not what make your shots that good ;)'

                        Thanks! 😉

About sensor. Xperia 1II has big sensor 1/1.7 with F1.7 and only 12mpx. Its the same performance like same size sensors with 48mpx pixel-binning nut that sensor is 3 times faster so can capture better dynamic range in low iso because speed redaout from sensor can make noise isnide analog converter.
I sell professional cameras soo I know something about sensors and optics.

I just had to throw a bunch of birthday shot and just stop doing any because people face in low light of a candle were a watercolour mess.
I learned my lesson after this and did in fact compare xperia 1 to P30Pro, Oppo reno 10x and nokia 9. Not talking about the last two that were jokes, the p30Pro was far better than the mate 10 pro (in fact mate 10 pro was worst than mate 9 of a colleague, they just had it wrong with this single phone), but the vibe of the shot were not to my pleasing; also the phone felt not balanced in hand, waterfall screen and notch.
I added the Xperia afterwards to the test list after seeing some shot posted here. I do really prefer the slightly noisy shot but with far more detail and depth it gives. Old school style if you prefer.

Nice insta btw, but pretty sure the camera quality/phone process is not what make your shots that good ;)

Shui8, 05 Jul 2021Your comparison doesnt make any sense. Mate 10 Pro are abou... moreI never compared mate 10 pro to Xperia 1 (I didn't have it at this time of course), I compared it to my old lumias that were already 2 years old at this time. Also I had to delete all of my sister's birthday shots because the camera wasn't able to handle the low light at all without turning to watercolour painting, no need to compare to anything to see the shot were just bad.
I did compare the Xperia 1 to the P30Pro since I had both in hand for 2 weeks (that and a nokia 9 and oppo reno 10x). I learned my lesson to not blindly believe what reviewers say and just try them out. Also I added the Sony afterwards on the list only because I liked some of the shot published around here and was not really moved by the other phone I was testing.
The P30Pro was good for the photo, but the phone not balanced at all in my hand, also the waterfall screen and notch were a big no to me. Same for the heavy energy saver that just cut any background process.
Don't get me wrong, there are things I don't like at all on the Xperia (fingerprint not working, bad x2 lens...), I wouldn't be looking for its successor else.

Just that most of the time, 4/5 photo are not great because of composition. I barely use manual tbh, only when I absolutely want to not have any IA post process or doing night shot (real one). 99% of the photo I make are with auto mode and that's how I compared my phones.
Mate 10 pro was not good to me, the "low noise in low light" was my biggest complaint. No noise, but no detail, no depth, just a patch of the same colour. Ok for building and car (and by OK, it's really not great) but absolutely awful when shooting people.

Hildr, 05 Jul 2021Yeah, on the other hand, I bought my mate 10 pro because re... moreMate 10 series had a great pair of cameras back when it was released. Wide dynamic range and low noise in low light, fairly neutral colour balance, surprisingly good at capturing moving objects and zooming in losslessly up to 2x, and and a good old monochrome sensor dedicated for B&W photography. I used to have the Pro variant and I remember that I throughly enjoyed shooting at every object around me in my free time with it.

"Only people that never make photo think you just point and click to have a good photo"
Uh, in many cases that can be one way to have a good photo. Manual mode gives you the control over the output which makes it easier for you to get the specific look of the photo you want, but that doesn't mean you can't have great looking shots in auto mode. That simply makes no logical sense, I'm afraid.
