If disabling thermal throttling is cheating, disabling power throttling is also cheating.
Why does they not make the power throttling a user switchable option, why is there not a optin for selecting apps by the user?
If they blacklisted specific apps which does not need higher performance then that's better and is different from they whitelisting benchmark apps

I don't know if this counts as cheating necessarily, but it taking this specific form just shows how far down the overheating path the 888 is.

The OnePlus 9 Pro was $969USD at launch.

In this case I don't agree with the delisting, because these phones are not using "cheats" to get a higher performance number in the benchmarks, what they're doing it's "cheating" to deliver LOWER performance in other situations.
But yes, it's ridiculous and infuriating for the user that they do this.

                            This isn't cheating.

To limit top end performance to all apps that don't need top end performance is a great way to save battery. If the way they implemented this allows games and video editing apps to reach top performance as well, then this "debacle" is just a way for certain outlets to cause a fuss and stir up some attention.

Anonymous, 07 Jul 2021This isn't even cheating... It's a a battery pres... moreIndeed! The real issue was when the benchmarking app ids forcibly entered high-performance modes that could not be attained in regular use. This so-called "cheat" does the exact opposite, it detects applications that should not enter high-performance modes (to preserve battery) but still runs all other applications as usual (even the benchmarking apps).

I do agree that OnePlus should have disclosed this better and should even allow to turn it off, but trying to conflate this with the previous attempts to defeat benchmarks is disingenuous to say the least (I'm looking at you Merdiatek and your nasty cheats).
