The behavior seen on the OnePlus 9 Pro was on purpose.

Does this mean all SD888 phones cannot utilise all performance cores at once because it just kills the battery?

[deleted post]Actually, there are only two Chinese brands I wouldn't trust :
          OnePlus and Huawei.
On the flip side, I don't trust Google, Apple and Samsung (which is more American than Korean, let's be honest), I would add Microsoft too to the list, but it is a no-brainer, and they are under-represented in the smartphone market anyway.
All the brands I've named here are known for their anti-consumers and shady practices.
Note that it is basically mostly American brands.

But anyone with a brain know that no brand is 100% trustworthy anyway, regardless which country it is from.

"Always Settle" has always been OnePlus' real motto.

I am 100% not surprised. Since the launch of the OnePlus One, OnePlus has always been more hype than reality. They are very good at marketing and getting the fanboys all worked up about their products.

But OnePlus has always taken short cuts and limited their devices in various ways, to save money, while pretending they make true flagship devices. It would be okay if they just admitted their devices are fancy midtier devices. Or low end semi-flagships, which cut some corners for pricing.

Of course, now that their devices are not longer good deals, and have the same pricing as many flasghips devices, there's no justification. So it seems instead like they just don't have the engineering skills to make a devices as good as the best. Or they are being cheap to make higher profits, while continuing to pretend that they are not cutting corners.

Does the throttling really effect end user experience to be noticeable? If not then I don't see the big issue as it clearly helps with battery life. Could have had better communication but I don't hardly see this as "cheating" on synthetic benchmarks and it looks to be localized to only the Snapdragon 888. Other OnePlus phones aren't affected.

Now we know why their phones don't overheat like all the other ones that use the 888 SoC. Basically they've downgraded the CPU performance to cover up the fact it overheats and throttles!

"This has helped to provide a smooth experience while reducing power consumption. While this may impact the devices’ performance in some benchmarking apps"

So they've throttled some apps to reduce power consumption and they're implying that the same is true for benchmarking apps when it's in fact the opposite? They really are the masters of spin. I think Xiaomi is more worthy of my business than OnePlus, Oppo, Realme and Vivo.
