07 July 2021
The behavior seen on the OnePlus 9 Pro was on purpose.

[deleted post]Again this dumb statement ,India may or maynot have 5G thats not the point...these brands are marketing phones in the name of 5g ready.. with just one band it wont be sure if it will work in all regions as different careers will have different bands, also a particular career might have different bands in different region

Anonymous, 08 Jul 2021It's a problem with chip itself. The SD888 is too much... moreYep. I haven't seen a phone using this chipset that has had competitive battery life compared to the previous generation's iteration. I would choose the exynos 2100 over this SD888 every day of the week and twice on Sunday. It's like the spiritual reincarnation of the SD810.

I'm feeling way better about that custom chip designed after the exynos for the Pixel 6 series. Seeing as how Sony just disappointed with the Mk III series, this regular Pixel 6 or the exynos S21 FE will be my only choices for an eventual replacement for my 6T.

In the Windows case, the application can utilize the full power of the system if it needs.

In this case of OnePlus, they prevent the app to use the full potential of the CPU.

WCOS, 08 Jul 2021This is most certainly NOT performance throttling. The proc... moreIf you are setting processor affinity based on the performance and power consumption of the processors then that's throttling only. It doesn't matter what approach you take - affinity, scheduler or whatever.
And the majority or all of the devices that windows runs on is not heterogenous cores. Intel is just introducing the big.Little like architecture. So the behavior of windows so far is not same as this. Traditionally affinity is used to increase performance by reducing switching latency and reusing caches.
And when you say like the device supports Qualcomm Dynamiq cluster and then do a fixed processor pinning, that says its not as dynamic as you claim.

Throttling is fine to an extent (if applied everywhere, not with benchmark whitelisted) but losing the most powerful component of a premium processor doesn't seem right.

NotAFanB0Y, 08 Jul 2021Hahaha... What a 100% true statement... Never Settle in ... moreWhat are you even saying? OnePlus still charges less than Samsung for their flagships while offering equal or better specs. OxygenOS is often touted as the best Android skin and OnePlus provides timely updates. I've never heard anyone complain about the quality of OnePlus phones. And compared to Apple, OnePlus offers much better value for money.

                So away with your lies.

                  Never Settle in prices🤣🤣🤣🤣

All these Chinese brands are following the same strategy, they first release value for money smartphones and after 2-3 years after getting consumers, fanbase and market recognition.. they start to increase their prices of their offerings stating it's an upgrade over previous generation when in reality even those newer parts they use in their newer offerings cost the same and slightly more than previous ones, but they hike prices disproportionately to gain more profits.. in the end

You said wonderful statement... and i appreciate your creativity in this🤣 – "Never Settle in prices"🤣🤣🤣

All these think they are equivalent to Apple and Samsung now and ask same prices as the other ones ask.. Even Apple and Samsung charge a lot more than they should for their flagships considering the BOM cost only 28-35% of their marketed and listed price, but at least they provide quality parts, quality software, quality software updates ^^ and good after sales service, not anything what these Chinese brands offer or "could offer".

Yikes, the most powerful core, stripped away from users? That's a bad way to "improve battery life", as they say, especially as they did not manage to attain any particularly above average battery life with that scheme.

WCOS, 08 Jul 2021This is most certainly NOT performance throttling. The proc... moreAs far as I know, the OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro seems to engage all performance cores for the Geekbench app but does not do so for any other app for battery saving reasons. So maybe just stop treating Geekbench differently?

Maybe manufacturers should stop concentrating on benchmarks and concentrate on user experience instead. I'm not going to not buy a phone because it's lower on the benchmark chart but I will not buy a phone if it lack certain features, is not value for money and gives a bad user experience.

It's not the best decision by these companies, they should be more open with customers. However I can see where they are coming from. I mean the more powerful the processor, the more resources it uses. However Geekbench is definitely not to be trusted. Its benchmarks and doesn't show daily performance at all.

Be it Chinese or Korean or American or any. Especially Xiaomi. I just get what ever phone that in my budget and carried on my life like normal. I don't care about the camera, battery, SoC and bla bla bla.. I even can live with a brick phone. As long I can use it for emergency I'm good with it.

This is most certainly NOT performance throttling. The procedure employed by OnePlus is referred to as 'processor affinity', where particular running processes (and apps) have been preassigned by OnePlus to be assigned to certain cores - so in the OnePlus 9 Series, processes/apps could be bound to the faster Cortex-X1 core (2.84 GHz), the mid-speed core Cortex-A78 (2.42 GHz), and/or the slowest core Cortex-A55 (1.8 GHz).

The Windows OS has had the ability to bind software applications and processes to particular cores of the CPU for a long time. For Android users, this seems to be a revelation.
