What's the point in buying newer phones if last year's phones are still good for another 5 years lol

Anonymous, 13 Jul 2021Oneplus, it's not what you did (which is a sensible op... more100% agree, the issue is not that they did it but that they didn't tell anyone.

Anonymous, 13 Jul 2021Easy, do not use best qualcomm cpu anymore. They have to for marketing purposes.

Did this scenarios has been made too by iPhones 2 years ago when iPhones truly get caught slowing it's high performance only for low health battery to extend it's battery life via software updates? That makes consumers in some country against this policy to the courts? And now 1+ did it again? Maybe CEO 1+ is Britney Spears's fan..

hardly a surprise, even 845 and maybe even 835 are pretty much all most normal people need for normal everyday use

L950, 13 Jul 2021The "phone stutter" is not as a result of the und... moreI wasn’t talking only about Android phones. My iPhone 11 stutters every now and then too which is only going to get worse over time. You can check app opening speed tests on YT. Apps don’t open instantly even on flagships. We clearly have a long way to go in terms of performance.

While I'm ready to admit that most SoC's are an overkill(because they are, even Snapdragon 410 runs most apps ok), I must say that with bloated OS'es, the effect is mostly negated and everyone in real life must've faced micro-stutters and lags in using Android.
Oneplus also leads in bloated OS'es.

Oneplus' mistake is that they didn't give users a choice.
Qualcomm's mistake is called Snapdragon 888 by most of us.

                      [deleted post]Ipad pro has.

Wrong, its always better to have an overkill specs because smartphones aren't modular that you can easily replace every parts to upgrade if the old hardware can't handle Apps/programs or slows down overtime due populated files/apps.

they just want us to replace phone every year by giving us an acceptable specs for our current needs, how about in the future?

the phone gained 3 more minutes of battery life over 12 hours but which phone has done more work in that time?
In computing it's sometimes more efficient to do a task with high power quickly than to do it with low power slowly. (1s x 10W = 10J < 12J = 3s x 4W)

"In recent years, the performance of smartphone SoCs has reached a point where their power is often overkill in certain scenarios for many apps including social media, browsers and even some light gaming."

That is precisely why I never recommend a flagship smartphone to an average consumer. A midrange Snapdragon 600 series chipset can do those jobs nicely. Even my younger brother can play COD Mobile with Medium setting from his Nokia 5.4 absolutely no problem at all. If you buy a flagship-grade smartphone, you do want to squeeze every drop of performance from that crazy powerful chipset. That is why HDMI ALT and Desktop Mode support should be a necessity for flagship smartphones. With such support, it can easily replace any Chromebook and budget Windows 10 laptop.
