This comparison compared to mi 11 ultra is unfair. Mi 11 ultra had superior hardware and software in every way. And plus there was no software helping the algorithm and no wonder the Nokia has such clean images with noise that's only visible from close

that size comparison though, Mi 11 is giant, I'd much rather have N808 sized phone

At the time the Nokia 808 PureView was on the market it was *the* best out there, camera-wise. I agree with Anonymous's comments; todays video and night shots have improved but still photos have indeed regressed quite a bit. Smartphone cameras are good for taking quick photos and vids, but for better detailed images I'd use my Sony compact camera. Wonder if there are any PureViews out there still for sale?

Anonymous, 19 Jul 2021The 808 did not run Microsoft windows. It had Symbian on it... moreYes, true, my 808 ran Symbian, but the thing is these people launched Microsoft apps on Symbian devices too. Without any information in the update log beforehand.
I never owned 1020 or 950 Lumias.
I was one of the few people who kept taking software updates, even after the Microsoft guy (Stephen Elop or what's-his-name..) started ruling and attacking Nokia... turns out, it was a mistake.

But this time I'm just aiming for pocketabilty. I don't have any brand preference, just the camera should be with me all the time. 35-50mm is my favourite range, that's one of the reason I have been reluctant to get the Fuji and ricoh. But they are also so small and have enough resolution that I can crop. I will gradually come to a conclusion.

I personally think that Mi 11 Ultra's output it's an over-sharpening mess. I don't like it, Nokia is way more natural.
A Xiaomi phone that's more natural in its post-processing is Mi Note 10 Pro for instance.

Glad that they fix AF issue on the XF10, but built quality is questionable as well, unlike all metal X70. If you choose ILC, get the best kit lens in the whole world first, the Fuji XF 18-55mm f2.8-4.0. After that maybe u can choose another fixed lens lol. Beware, those cheap TTartisans & Meike are great as well, with a vintage character looks to it 😋

The xf10 had some AF issues which fuji kinda fixed with updates. But because of that the prices of used x70 just shot up, which is sad because I really like the tilty screen. I'm also considering ILCs with pancake lenses, but gonna take some time and decide slowly.

Congrats to Nokia 808 for putting up a huge fight against a bigger dog, even with the slower aperture. This conclusion was somewhat inevitable, after all a lot of time has passed.
9 years in technology is mighty big...
But I think its not wise to conclude that such an old phone will be performing at its best.
And I'm not saying it more due to lens glass scratches, but I have a feeling that Microsoft dropped an update that ruined my 808's camera in the late 2015's or so... They became more noisy, or so I felt.
It was a social media update, something about Twitter, but it deliberately and forcefully brought microsoft's apps too, which were not uninstallable. It also bought something like "Location features" or something in Settings menu.
Of course, even without it, we'll be looking at Mi11 winning it overall.
If I'd keep a Nokia 808 in 2021, I'll do so after getting rich. And my reasons won't be camera alone, but a combination of camera, music quality and privacy reasons.

Rkm, 19 Jul 2021I thought the same about computational raw myself, but was ... moreThat computational RAW sounds good, but like I said, bigger sensor with computational JPEG output beats it. I'm talking about my P40, if I use RAW, I loose the Huawei's Super Res algorithm (50mp cropped & downscale to 12.5mp fused with pixel-binned 12.5mp cropped & upscaled) which can get high quality details using intermediate zoom ranging from x1 to x2.5, (27 to 70mm) by only the main sensor, without any optical optics been used. There's a x3 optical up to x5 hybrid zoom (80 to 135mm, quality lost if I use RAW in this particular FL). Definitely turns the Master AI off, using the light metering manually & tap to focus feature, playing with light & shadow. Couldnt care less about its UWA. Smartphone just make it as trends (well, some will appreciate it, its just not my favourite FL).
Here's my take on it, notice that in the description I crop a lot to compose & finalized the output at various of FL - https://www.instagram.com/shuibullah.amran/
About Fuji XF10, heard got some issue about it, the older X70 are better (eventhough price hardly come down as its one of its kind lol). Ricoh GR starting mark ii great as well, sharp knife lens. As for me, a happy Fuji XE3 user 👌🏻

This comparison makes big foolishness. Where there is no android technology in that time also no software support for image stabilization and other things nokia done that great job. Now you are comparing Mi 11 ultra with nokia 808 this is the foolishness. Because Xiaomi depends on software Miui not on lenses other things. Nokia 808 doesn't have the garbage like MIUI.

The shadow and highlights recovery was very impressive. The only thing you may not like is the way phone lenses renders finer details although that's a very big part.
I too am considering an older generation ricoh gr or fuji xf10. I was always fascinated by it and it will kill every phone out there. If I get a good deal on older ones when I'm actively, I may get it.
