Having a smartphone with stupidly easy DIY repairability? Now that is a true sustainability move. Launching new phones every month isn't it.

Lol, Xiaomi do sustainability? If they really do sustainability, they shouldn't launch a new phone model every month.

Anonymous, 14 Jul 2021Sustainability yeah whatever, you just condense the market ... moreSamsung, Oppo and Vivo have new phone every week.
        None of them need 20, 30 , 50 models to cover the range $100 - 1400.

This is why many devices overlap each other with similar specs.
Years ago, all A series were better than J.
Now not all A are better than M phones.
Moto by Lenovo is doing same.

Even Samsung & Apple can't do something for sustainability and Xiaomi???

Even the fairphone themselves said it is impossible to manufacture phones that has little impact on the environment.

All these companies claiming they are doing more to be eco friendly all while churning out phones every week and killing their support the first moment they can to make more sales on new weekly models. And Apple is no exception here even if they don't churn new phones like mad. They may recycle all the aluminium and have eco friendly paper packages, but what they did with the charger thing was laughable and I rolled my eyes so hard I dislodged them during their presentation back in fall 2020. It had nothing to do with ecology and everything to do with with increasing profits. I can argue or defend some other things, but this one was so painfully obvious you can't cover it up in any way.

Also can someone explain to me the need for plastic layer on displays? I know all the "peeling experience" nonsense which I never understood quite frankly. Why not have phone wrapped in paper instead of plastic? It's not like display resistant against screwdrivers and knives is going to scratch in a cardboard box during transportation. Or wrapping of entire cardboard box in transparent plastic. Just use anti tamper paper stickers on sides where box opens. Packaging could easily be 100% paper/cardboard.

Look at Realme, they’ve learnt the lesson. Their UI is still bad but already getting better as well.

Xiaomi? Getting worse each day LOL

Sustainability yeah whatever, you just condense the market with a lot of models. Poco F3 then F3 Pro then again F3 GT. Just check Redmi 9T vs Poco M3 internals and they’re the same. Lots of e-waste. Samsung and BBK have learnt the lesson. Xiaomi can’t even fix MIUI and all they care is $$$. Worst company ever.

But fans will buy them because all they want is low price.

                  Oh please, STOP!
Xiaomi and reducing waste in the same sentence don't really go that well.
