Weekly poll results: the Sony Xperia 1 III has devoted fans, a lower price tag would bring in more

18 July 2021
It is not for everyone, but its design and features stand out from the crowd. The price tag is hard to miss too.

YUKI93, 18 Jul 2021I love the new Mk3 a lot, but that Snapdragon 888 chipset? ... moreThat's why I've shifted my "1 III vs 13 Pro" question for this year to the "1 IV vs 14 Pro" question for next year. I'm very interested to the 1 III in most aspect, and the 888 is the largest factor stopping me from buying it

How would there be devoted fans if previous years had shown less sales of sony phones? Kinda misleading title.

[deleted post]To be honest, they are all too expensive, but they get away with it.

However if you look at the whole market, Sony is behind the competition in terms of performance. If they go on like this it could fire back somewhen.

I like that Sony gives us "something else" with their phones. A headphone jack is a nice treat on a flagship these days and no notch is too (and the bezels aren't even ugly!). Stereo speakers, IP rating, etc. – that's nice. Sadly the most important factors for a phone these days (camera, sound quality of the speakers, battery etc. etc.) are something the competition is better at.

Sony is reversing some poor decisions of the competition, which is why I'd actually like to see them being better. But they aren't.

If you can ignore a notch, ASUS did it right with their Zenfone 8. I believe Sony needs to make more use of their technologies. They are definitely selling themselves at less than fair value.

Devoted fans are the worst thing in mobile industry (I'm saying this as an Xperia 5.2 owner). Here is what the fanboyism led to: https://www.gsmarena.com/vidcmp.php3?idType=5&idPhone1=10712&idPhone2=10096

Camera on 1 III is worse than on 1 II. Sony has no reason to try to keep up with the competition if their fanboys keep buying their phones just for the sake of being Sony.

Alpha, 18 Jul 2021Yeah thats called thermal throttling, ofcourse the company ... moreYou're comparing a 2021 phone with a Note 7, seriously? The Note 7 are all budget phones. If you mean the Note 7 that burns to the ground, it's got battery problem not thermal throttling disabled problem. Please don't spread stupidity here.

I don't understand why everyone moaning about price.. to me price is ok(it is high... BUT)when i bought my s21 ultra 256gb for £1200 and whife iPhone 12 pro max for £1200 so this is in the same price bracket... if they are high price tag, this is also ok as it gives more functionality over the others ( headphone jack, sd expansion) and if this is high price tag.. they are also high price tag.. stop moaning about x1iii price..

RealLifePhones, 18 Jul 2021I would like that poll again now that the word is out that ... moreApparently, that news is still a rumour. Also, last year's Mk2 model will be eligible for three major OS updates (https://www.notebookcheck.net/The-Sony-Xperia-1-II-and-Xperia-5-II-will-receive-three-OS-upgrades-no-Android-11-for-the-Xperia-XZ3-or-earlier-models-though.491421.0.html). So it is totally unlikely for the Mk3 to only receive one major OS update.

I love the new Mk3 a lot, but that Snapdragon 888 chipset? I'm not sure if I want to live with it.

AnonD-986036, 18 Jul 2021Then that's not an great experience. Sony phones, you ... moreWonder why, even their Playstations and cameras(though not all) got similar problems compared to competition.

Alpha, 18 Jul 2021Yeah thats called thermal throttling, ofcourse the company ... moreThen that's not an great experience. Sony phones, you cannot use burst mode, hdr mode, and flash while the phone is above 43°C. That's bad. And sometimes the camera app freezes and is laggy bcuz of overheating. That's an rubbish experience considering the price you pay, and the Snapdragon 888 chip inside. Even midrange phones and other flagships don't have an overheating issues to the point of preventing the full use of cameras or laggy camera, only flash is disabled as i know

Though I said it already, I got about the same features - jack, all fov raw, similar fovs, EAF,.. for 1/3 price sooner than this came out. Sony should reflect on it

And if people say they bought iPhone 12 or S21 instead, it surely doesn't mean they don't have money.
Xperia III IS an overpriced crap! And that wouldn't change, no matter how hard Sony fans try.

Price is not an issue, problem for me is:
                                        -Overheating
-Camera not good enough (as crazy as it may sound)
                                        -No desktop mode
