Nick Tegrataker, 28 Jul 2021"64MP telephoto (3.5x optical zoom, 100x digital zoom,... moreI for one largely appreciate the Monochrome comeback. Not only the mood, tone & pure B&W looks, but it helps the color photo with micro-contrast in results. Very Leica-ish 👌🏻👍🏻

40 mono? 13 ultrawide? 3,5 zoom? Looks like a step back:|

Feels like an afterthrough model for Huawei:
- 8GB RAM
- no 5G modem
- no best in class screen
- probably no 8K video
Feels like they are just putting their all best people to work on Honor top models (yeah, separate company, but basically they are one big conglomerate).

That camera setup though.
64MP with actual 3.5x optical zoom instead of the cheap "telephoto" lens on the S20/S21 series.
This setup sounds amazing, and I think it will be much more amazing in my opinion if that telephoto is gonna use a CFA setup for the sensor.
And a 40MP monochrome? That's 20MP more than the P20 Pro, but the ultrawide seems to be downgraded from the 20MP on the Mate 40 Pro.
But maybe this thing can put up a fight in the Mi 11 Ultra.

Nick Tegrataker, 28 Jul 2021"64MP telephoto (3.5x optical zoom, 100x digital zoom,... moreWhen you have monochrome, no more need to keep the RYYB.
Mono is more light sensitive , also easier to deal with WB.
But different size compared to the wide means different DOF.
Also, the lack of HDar when both work together and no macro.

YUKI93, 28 Jul 2021I thought the chipset would be the 4G version of Snapdragon... moreYou don't actually need a monochrome camera to take black and white photos. The Leitz phone can do that too, with only a single camera. In my opinion this is useless.

This sounds weird.
I doubt huawei would remove periscope from Pro version to bet on digital zoom from 72mm instead.

"64MP telephoto (3.5x optical zoom, 100x digital zoom, OIS), 40MP monochrome"
What the actual f..
I hope that Huawei is putting this 64MP sensor behind an actual 90mm equivalent "telephoto" lens instead of using 29mm lens, cropping the image and calling it "hybrid optic zoom" or whatever the weird name like Samsung does on S21/S21+, even though the latter seems unlikely given the image.
Now, as for the monochrome sensor: I'm glad to see it making a comeback, but please make the sensor just as large as the main camera! I'll be a bit disappointed if they are simply reusing IMX600 and taking away the CFA from it.

LoLoL, 28 Jul 2021So it's mate 40 pro with different suit?Huawei always introduces a new Kirin chipset with the Mate series smartphone. Since the P series is about professional-grade mobile photography, it will have greatly different camera hardware than the Mate series. So if you care about the camera, go for the P series. But if you care about a new Kirin chipset, the Mate series is the one to go for.

LoLoL, 28 Jul 2021So it's mate 40 pro with different suit? Not quite, the P40 Pro doesn't seem to have a periscope lens judging from these specs, telephoto lens only.

I can't tell you how excited I am for this phone I think I'm going to go crazy if it's not released soon.. but we need to know the price. For 4g and 2020 technology it needs to be competitive or forget about it
