If I purchase the Galaxy S10e, I would own the best small flagship released from 2016-2020.
2016 - Apple iPhone SE
2017 - Essential Phone
2018 - Google Pixel 3
2019 - Samsung Galaxy S10e
2020 - Apple iPhone 12 mini
You can argue the Xperia XZ1 Compact and even smaller Pixel 2 is better than the Essential Phone but the Essential offered better value. I feel like those listed are the best for that year among smaller phones or at least top 3. I also own a Nexus 5 and iPhone 4S, so I own of the best from 2011 and 2013 as well.
The Pixel 6 Pro is the one to get. You get 120 hz, 5000 mAh battery, and both wide-angle and telephoto. The 6 feels gimped. Don't waste your money on that. I just won't get either because I hate the large size. I'll wait for the Pixel 7 if Google returns to a smaller size. It sucks Android 12 doesn't offer true black mode. The dark mode isn't really black and will save less battery.

I voted will there be a smaller model? We may not if it features a 120 hz and a huge battery to power it. I doubt a Pixel a-series will get features like that. The Pixel 5 could be the final flagship with a comfortable one-handed size similar to the Nexus 5.
I've been thinking about and my next phone is a 2019 phone. It's the Samsung Galaxy S10e. The SD 855 is more powerful than the 765G. It's still smaller than the Pixel 5 and cheaper than the 4a that also has headphone jack. I want Samsung Pay with MST back.

It's probably going to be one of Google's best phones since the Nexus line, but where they're going after the premium segment, I doubt many people will but them since most will already be buying their usual Samsung or Apple devices, when people look at upgrading it's normally to a newer model from the same company unless they're not happy with their current brand.

i don't care how much it will cost. I can't wait to throw in the trash my stupid Redmi Note 9 Pro and buy the Pixel 6 Pro the same day it gets released here in Germany. No more cheap chinese phones.

Aside from them not selling one in my country, so importing makes them more expensive.
That fact aside, this is a first gen product due to it's Tensor SoC.
I would wait till next gen, this is for "the beta testers" under us.

They will launch the phones 6-10 months later when everything will be outdated and that too at an exorbitant price.
If they cannot provide better performance than a Chinese brand midrange other than camera then maybe they don't have a chance.

I do not think $800 is bad price.
If you buy iphone 12 unlocked 128GB with accessories, it is gonna be more than $800 easily (probably more than $1000 for other markets).

Google is exactly treading on Nokia's path of becoming a dinosaur in smartphone segment. Successive mistakes over the years by selling underspecc'd ugly devices at premium prices. It's been 6+ years and they don't sound serious in capturing market share, topping it off with limited availability in Asian, African and Latam regions. They can't become Apple so they should just drop imitating them, now. No proprietary secured ecosystem, no USP established nor solid customer based. People aren't gonna wait forever for them to learn walking on their own. Will buy zenfone 8 instead !!!

Phablet + ultra ugly punch hole + 800€ .. no reason to even wish this.. if they throw out 145-mm with reasonable price, then no doubt pix 6 "mini" all mine.
