I'd rather pay double and buy a great laptop. But foldables are cool.

Anonymous, 15 Aug 2021It is smaller than ipad mini (that has bit over 5000mAh). ... moreTrue, I didn't criticize it for that, I just said that, it adds up to other things to make it a niche.

I don't know why they insist on making those through bendable displays when they could rather seek for true borderless displays, so the phone is literally two halves that perfectly match together, definitely fixing the crease and other bending display related issues...

With a simple cover that would move away from the display's edges when they are getting against one another, so it is protected against both impacts and anything that could get in between the two displays, since it would be two perfectly enclosed parts of the phone, it would be easy to make it IP68 compliant, and there would be a gain of space inside.

Even using a third, intermediate super slim display, so there isn't the need for perfectly borderless edges, would be easy and fix a lot of issues with current foldables...
That's one thing I criticize about the current smartphone market, when there are better solution available, they still only get totally locked to one or two ways of doing it, only because other also do it too...

I love the foldable concept and I might be looking forward for one in the future, so how about a “NO, I WON’T BUY ONE, BUT I DO RECOMMEND THEM FOR THE RIGHT PEOPLE?”

Considering it bemds in the middle, impossible to put huge battery like few galaxy M without making it way thicker and heavier.
It has less about 6.4mm when open.

voted foldable is a bad idea coz of 2 things - first the crease in the middle of the screen when fully open is something i cannot now. second at the moment foldable feels like 2 screen attached together (presently the foldable tech is nothing special. will only get a foldable when we can have a proper taut screen like normal smartphone screen and tech and design will have to change drastically otherwise no foldable for me

I didn't vote for anything as I don't want a foldable, but I don't consider them being a bad idea, after all, there need to be for everyone.

Though, it makes me laugh how, despite being a super niche after all they are expensive, and not for everyone, still have the crease issue, other cons like small battery, thick when folded, having the cost of a flagship but the camera setup of a middle end, and many other things that would make them not the best choice for many people...
But they are still a thing, they are still profitable.

And at the same time, there are people saying that "PhOnE wItHoUt FrOnT cAmErA wOuLd Be ToO nIcHe AnD wOuLd'Nt SoLd".
Or even better, the pop up haters who love foldable phones.
Every single already debunked supposed downsides of the pop up do apply to foldables, except that they are real here.
Or those who pretend that putting X or Y feature that actually don't cost a lot, would make the phone "too expensive and no one would buy it, and since not everyone wants it, it wouldn't be profitable".

If those people could just keep it quiet, there would actually be a GOOD diversity, but their combined negativities ruined the smartphone market.
Why is it so important for people that phones with a tech, design, feature, etc, that they don't personally want, have to not exist?
Why they have to point out, when it actually is totally false, but they just don't know better, that "no one would buy it", "no one wants it", or "it wouldn't be profitable"?
Is it so hard to just leave it be, so we have diversity, like other markets, rather than having one or two out of dozens of potential tech/design/feature being the only available thing?
The funniest is when someone is into one niche, and still trash talk another niche, but lose it when someone criticizes his own niche...
                  And other non-senses.
Do you even realize that this is THIS exact attitude that make YOUR niche along with all others being actually hard/near impossible to find?

                  People...

Even Samsung gave me one I'd immediately put it up for sale. In 3 years time I'll see what progress has been made in their design and functionality.

I've pre ordered a Z Fold3. I've been thinking about trying a foldable for a while now and with the improvements and lower price of the Z Fold3 it's convinced me to try one. Managed to order one via corporate pricing of £1439 and an extra £144 cashback plus £300 for my current phone brings the price down to £995, which is a great price. Can't wait to try it!
