Other chips like 801 and 810 had more than one version during the year (yes, the 810 inside Z5 and X Force is not same used by Z3+/G2 Flex/one m9).
In the end, they all behave the same.
Unless Qualcomm starts from zero and goes to tsmc, nothing is gonna change.

The SD888 already runs hot and the battery life of phones with it is not that good, so I am not sure about this...

Not to mention what you are referring to is something completely separate from the fabrication process.
It's the specific setup, core count, clock speed, and controllers samsung chooses to set up their recent exynos chips with.
Which using to few Mali cores at to high of a clock rate is what's holding the current one behind snapdragon. But it's not worlds apart from it overall.
And in the past from s1 to s8 the exynos was the overall superior chipset.
The fab process is completely different. And yes tmsc is ahead but samsung is by no means bad.

I have no idea why anyone would ever go to them for processor manufacturing.

These are powerful SoCs using large power hungry cpu cores that people are trying to keep sustaining and beefy gpus.
The phones are going to get warm from it. Even if tmsc makes it.

Qualcomm has run out of ideas and is just overclocking the previous generation of chips, hence the increase in heat and battery consumption. SD855 is the last chip that you can get decent battery life from a 4,000 mah battery.

A14/A15 paper champ can't deliver in real world
