Most chargers people are gonns buy come with the protection necessary anyways if any issue occus so it doesn't blow up and besides consumers can still choose the right wattage they wanna buy so battery degrwde
Currently 33W seems to be moving as the standard as many phones especially xiaomi statt to include those chargers in their midrange.
as far as I know you can also get a 55W GaN charger within xiaomi 11 if they are generous enough to send yoy one in the global market byt that's besides the point

Great now people will use a 3rd part charger and kill their battery faster! Not saying one fits all is all negative if its a decent reliable charger its fine. I am also worried if a really bad charger may cause a fire? Since it will not stop charging?

Solun1, 15 Aug 2021Again, something that the EU is useless for. They should wo... moretrue, they should, but that doesn't mean they should drop out this legislation.
This is maybe mostly my opinion rather than a fact but if the EU Requires apple to make a Type-C, yes this will hurt innovations of Iphone made accessories that utilizes Lighting port and consumers will have to ditch them if they buy the new iPhone with Type-C but down the line you'll only ever be needing one type-c cable for all of your devices (and maybe a dongle if you are using one) even on Android or Iphones but better yet even for your PC or Mac.
The problem with that legislation personally is that apple can bypass this by removing the charging port on their next iPhone and rely on wireless charging, but yet again we can see how wireless charging is inefficient and not the best move but companies like apple just don't care about that and they will try to get into wireless charging features, especially now that they got magsafe around.

Anonymous, 13 Aug 2021May be you should revisit your usage pattern. You are ruini... moreYou must not know about lithium ion batteries then.
They maintain their charge the best over years if the charge is kept between 60-75%. Partial charge cycles and complete charge cycles are completely different things. Partial charge cycles don't damage the batteries anywhere close to a complete charge cycle.
You seem like a typical apple fanboy repeating apple marketing.

Conor, 14 Aug 2021Making unnecessary regulation doesn't help anyone, jus... morePD 3.0 supports 5V 0.5A (2.5W) and up. So it could be used for every phone, even for super slow charging. I'm not saying that every phone manufacturer should use its full potential.
PD 3.0 is developed by USB implementers forum, so is free for any phone manufacturer (no licencing fees).
Your theory is flawed because, right now, we have a plethora of different proprietary fast charging protocols (Samsung AFC, Huawei FCP and SCP, Apple BC, Oneplus warp, Some use QC 3.0 etc). Different proprietary protocols mean that we cannot use one charging head to fast charge different brands. In other words, more electronic waste, and more expenses for consumers.
Let me give you example. Let's say that I have in my office 65W gan charger with 3.0 PD protocol. And let's say that protocol supports fast charging for my laptop, for my phone, and for phones for my two colleagues. Which are all different brands. That is one charger in theory.
Reality is that I charge laptop by DC port, I charge my phone by huaweu proprietary charger (SCP), colleagues charge their phones with Samsung (AFC) and Sony Xperia (QC 3.0). That's four chargers.
And we all have similar situation in our homes. Standardisation could bring one charging head (one power brick) and one cable.
I don't know how old are you, but in recent past, almost every manufacturer had different ports, (which in today time, eventualy changed in two: microUSB and USB C).
So, one cable port, one charging head (one brick), one protocol (PD 3.0) is the only reasonable way to go.
Apple should be forced long time ago to ditch lightning port, but they used it even for iphone 11, for what? Tell me my friend what is difference between USB C and lightning port? They all have few connectors inside, no special technology that justifies their obstruction for standardisation (except money, of course)

Android--Master, 14 Aug 2021The reason they introduce features late and are the last co... moreYes the first step is to force
Third party apps on IOS
Allow 3rd party to use own payments
Set defaults
Delete preloaded apps
1,2,3 may happen but 4th won't.
Still Apple and Google have been r*ping and starving out profits from small developers , I hope this bill in USA gets passed and approved soon and then Apple will finally start innovating instead of sucking money from Devs.

Thats why apple earned guiness world record for most laws dedicated to copy paste technology of others. If you know what i am mean.

Apple pretty much destroyed lots of ''paths of innovation'' just choosing and popularising those which bring most of profit.
Simple as that!
Want an example? Swapping batteries. Used to be a common thing! Just do not tell me that wouldn't be possible to make waterproof phones with this option...

Anonymous, 14 Aug 2021Yes blame apple for all the e waste , that really makes sen... moreApple is really the lesser offender. They release what, 4 phone models a year and that's it. And they provide active support for 5-7 years on all models without exceptions and people are actually using their phones close to those numbers (people who buy new models every year are really in minority and if phones are flawless, they go to second hand market where they usually end up living to those total 5-7 years of life). So, all in all, Apple really makes the least waste given they don't just spam entire market with dumb copies of renamed clones and release new models every week. Even if they left the charger in the boxes they'd still be better than 3/4 of other companies all things considered.
