Vonikhsat S Metra, 18 Aug 2021This reeks of soldered unupgradable RAM and I'm sorry ... moreRecently bought the Realme Book (Slim) From Flipkart. Granted this laptop is an Apple MacBook impersonator, but then I found how well the implementation was made and how close it went to a MacBook for its asking price. Renowned Youtuber Dave2d's review was an eye opener for me.

Realme launched Intel Core i3 (8GB) & Core i5 (8GB) variants for ₹45K ($600, €520) & ₹57K ($760, €660) respectively in India. However during festive season this month, Realme's online retail partner Flipkart was selling the Core i5 variant for the price of Core i3 after various flat discounts, bank cashback's & instant card discounts and all!

I was able to grab a Realme Book Slim (Core i5, Real Grey) variant for ₹45.3K ($601, €520) without any exchange. For that price it is a steal deal. My jaw droped looking at the specs for this $600 device:

1) Premium all metal build just like Apple MacBook.

2) Awesome 14 inch, 2K Display supporting 100% sRGB color gamut. 400 nits peak brightness for a laptop is outstanding.

3) Intel Core i5-1135G7 (11th Gen)

4) Intel Iris XE Graphics

5) Dual fan cooling system. Most laptops comes with only one fan, hence thermal management is better than its competitors.

6) 8GB LPDDR4x @ 4266MHz Dual channel RAM. This is very high speed RAM @ 4266MHz, equivalent to 12 GB variants of its competitors running at much lower frequencies. Pity it is soldered to motherboard and non-up-gradable.

7) 512GB Samsung Gen3 SSD with one of the highest read and write speeds in its category. i5 variant have 2 times write speed of i3 variant. User up-gradable slot with PCIe Gen3/Gen4 support.

8) Thunderbolt 4 port, USB-C 3.2 Gen 2, USB-A 3.2 Gen 2

9) 3.5mm Headphone Jack (A rarity)

10) WI-FI 6 & Bluetooth 5.2

11) 6952mAh (54.1Wh) 4-cell Lithium Polymer battery. I would have liked an even bigger battery.

12) 65 watt fast charger which is as small as a phone charger with support for most advanced PPS (Programmable Power Supply) charging tech. Support for USB Power Delivery, VOOC is also present.

13) 3-level Backlit Keyboard, identical to MacBook

14) Huge trackpad

15) Two HARMAN Speakers with DTS, decently loud

16) Clean Windows 10 Home with ZERO bloatware. Free upgrade to Windows 11 when available.

17) Microsoft Office 2019 Home & Student pre-installed

Even more impressive is the Realme Book (Core i5) variant have recently received the Intel Evo certification. Which means sleep to wake time is under a second with the Fingerprint Power Button. Awesome, as I cannot think of a better laptop for the price I paid, in India!

Anonymous, 20 Aug 2021Saying m1 is powerful is hilarious. That cheapest isn'... moreLow grade attempt to distort the truth. Apple's transition to ARM was exceptionally smooth and there are already tons of apps that run native in M1. Lots of hardcore Windows users have noticed the class of M1 and have switched. The big blow to Intel and AMD will come when M2 arrives.

Anonymous, 20 Aug 2021Saying m1 is powerful is hilarious. That cheapest isn'... moreI own one and I can say that your comment does not check out. This is the only Apple product I own and I'm not fanboying. I have several other computers and the M1 Air is still amongst the fastest of my devices.

I like the 5.2 Bluetooth, wifi 6, battery, design, and, screen quality.
Chinese price is good (not great). There is a 16g version, but i3 with the good price, is not worth it (bt 5.1, lower ram quality, ssd speed and more).

I would go for the MSI modern 15 a11m version. 500 euros, 16:10 screen (I prefer that ration) with great quality, almost same battery, 512 ssd, same 8g ram but upgradeable, wifi 6, bt 5.1 (damn, I really love the 5.2 upgrade, is not minus), hdmi, sd card, 2xusb-type c (can charge), 1xusb3, 1xusb3.2 (only misses the usb-4/thunderbolt), Iris Xe Graphics, and of course, the same i3-1115g3 chip.

That cheapest isn't even compatible for their many own softwares. Benchmark can't relate anything to real world. Only few optimized native apps which shown good performance, will be running good.

In India, If we compare windows laptop at this price. It's a good buy.
If we compare to China prices, this is high. In China, 8+512 is under 50K with Intel Evo certification. There's also a 16gb option.

Dips, 19 Aug 2021What about RAM. They have given only 8 GB RAM.That's the only issue that's bugging me. If you can live with 8 GB ram, good choice or else wait for higher ram variants.

I was expecting 16 GB RAM in this price range.

There is no point purchasing it without 16 GB RAM.
