Well to be honest cant wait a moment when EU will force Apple to use USB-C in their phones othervise penalize them with several billion fine for not obeying what they really want and what everybody wants.
Which means less E-Waste by unifiyng all chargers to just one.

Apple makes good and high quality products but they steal and copy other manufactures and avoid developing new tech themselves. If everyone did that we would have no development.
Their next big steal is Samsungs foldables. Apple is waiting a couple of years until Samsung has ironed out all the quirks and then they steal, copy and improve on that design releasing a foldable that's 10 times better than Samsungs.

Now Samsung and oth... moreI'm amazed that people are shamelessly suggesting other manufacturers are copying Apple in getting rid of the notch, lol. And, even if it's true they're getting rid of the camera bump, they're not even the first to do so. The Oppo Reno 10X zoom had a periscope zoom lens, pop-up sharkfin selfie camera and no camera bump. I don't think the Mi 9T/9T Pro had much of a camera bump either.

I still dream/wish to own one or at least get to see/handle one in person.
But as you rightly said, people (especially "Techtubers") and their skeptic/pessimist mindset of "MoViNg PaRtS aRe BaD" resulted in the death of such a unique breed of pop-ups, slide-ups, flip-ups, etc.
But I'm grateful we left the ugly notch far behind in favour of bullet-holes even if it's not the best solution

Anonymous, 09 Sep 2021Come on. That cut out is too intrusive. It's not about... moreNo, that's because it was poorly implemented, NOTHING, and I insist on NOTHING except the status icons, and maybe an ambient color or the wallpaper should get displayed around the notch.
If it was done like that, it would basically be a better bezel rather than a dent.
Clearly what they did with the iPhone X wasn't only to put a notch, clearly they made the phone having a taller display on a shorter phone compared to the iPhone 8 Plus :

And it still holds true even when not taking the notch into account :

5.5" for the iPhone 8 Plus to 5.8" on the iPhone X, so there is clearly no need to go and try to use the extra space around the notch.
They clearly should have kept the same font size as the previous models and display the status information on two rows, and simply rotate them 90° or 270°, and for the carrier name, display it vertically when the phone is in landscape orientation.
Same as the notch hider apps, not only it looks much better, it gives off a regular bezel looks, but you get the status bar out of the main display giving you extra space, and it doesn't even look like a too big bezel, all that while still having FaceID.
This is how it should have been done, in fact, it could still be done, it is all software, the notch itself isn't bad.
But having a notch or a hole ONLY for a camera, THIS is a waste of space that can't be justified.
