When was simply a choice of Apple to remove the jack because they were developing AirPods.
S6 has 2500mAh + jack. Smaller and thinner than 7+.
Z3+ has 2930 mAh + IP68 + jack. Smaller and thinner than 7+.
If Apple wanted, they surely would be able to offer jack and 3300mAh inside 7+/8+ Without making thicker.

C'mon, it is 2021, no high-end phones should have less than 5000mAh batteries EXCEPT for voluntarily small/slim ones, fast charging or not, in fact, even more with "only" a 25W charging speed.
