AnonD-1018819, 24 Sep 2021ANKER is awesome, I just hate how they treat Europe as some... moreTheir lightning cable costs 1/3 of the one from Apple.
Quality is 100x better.

It would be interesting to see what are the implications, if any, for wearables. AirPods are mentioned as a product to be affected, so I would assume that smartwatches are also part of the scope of the proposal.Apple, Samsung and Huawei have magnetic/wireless charging for their smartwatches so I guess they would fall under the "no ports" exemption of the regulation. Amazfit, Garmin, Ticwatch etc though (plus almost all bands and activity trackers) have either propriatery ports, or pogo pins to charge. Do they also need to move to USB-C or no ports at all, or are they exempt as a category?

now all the money you pay for the device and a cable and it will not save money you will pay extra if you want a fast charger. The smart phone makers will just charge a little less but will find a way to make more money out of this move

While having Lightning connector isn't a big deal for me, I can understand the logic behind the change and while I prefer Lightning in terms of easier maintenance, I'm fully for USB-C. I just hope this will mean ALL phones will get USB-C. I hate how low and lower end phones still have microUSB.

this will only help phone manufacturer earn even more since it's justify not to include chargers with new phone and the omission of charger will probably does not mean lower price for phone but instead higher price and couple with having to purchase a new charger / wire new phone will get even more expensive in future since its justify for manufacturer to do so. just look at Apple / Samsung omitting charger/wire/headphone jack but price had not drop but sarcastically price even go up. another eu never consider it might hinder innovation on charging tech. if europe wants to legislate this make sure there are laws to ensure lower price for new phone when minus all charging accessories other manufacturers will be laughing for helping them save money plus earn more through sale of charging accessories

Idiotic, almost every new phone has an improved charger. Now the EU wants customers to pay $30-40 extra for the charger on top of the cost of the phone, which will remain unchanged of course.

Why are people moaning about it? The aim is to use a single charger for all devices. USB c pd does that. Have a couple of these chargers and use it for everything in your home. From your big laptops to the puny wireless earphones, a single charger for them all.

Almand, 24 Sep 2021u shud buy Anker charges, they are good and durable and not... moreANKER is awesome, I just hate how they treat Europe as some sort of 3rd world. EU plug adapters/chargers are always lacking (or just not existing entirely) and only way to find what they even offer is to navigate through German localized webpage. Which is not fun, I tell you that.

Anonymous, 24 Sep 2021Portless devices will never show up.
Transfer files over ... moreOld days During Nokia Era, we had phone with separate ports, charging pin and other pin for flashing or installing software.
That pin for flashing was hidden and you had to remove cover and battery to access it.
If these Oems has guts to remove 3.5mm jack I won't be suprised if they remove type C too. They just want to save money and get profit.

Anonymous, 24 Sep 2021So stupid decision , maybe the've some ties with apple!if they had ties to apple, they would not have proposed everyone to use USB-C charging ports. Don't be stupid.

They could just say all ports and charging should adhere to usb c and USB c pd, as well as any device should have a charger bundled which supports the maximum charging speed of that device. So if Chinese manufacturers decide 120w, they should bundle such a charger, sam goes for Apple or Samsung with its lower speeds. Fair for everyone.

k11, 24 Sep 2021What's not mentioned in this article is the fact that ... morePortless devices will never show up.
Transfer files over wifi is no near using USB C 3.1.
For example 1 minute of 4K ProRes of iphone 13 Pro is told to be 6GB.
Also, what if your device has software issues during update and bricks?
You cannot reinstall the software or perform repair.
