This is a good move. USB PD should be the standard. And whatever innovation that needs to happen can easily be done within the physical construct of the USB C. I am sure OEMs, lead by Apple, is going to call this choking of innovation. It's okay. Us poor consumers will bear with it. The last time Apple innovated was in 2012, when they moved from the 30 pin dock connector to the current Lightning. In these 11 years, Apple has done nothing innovative when it comes to Lightning. Apart from increasing their licensing fees for third party Lightning cable and charger makers. And this goes to VOOC, Dash charging and all other innovations.
I wonder if the EU can also make it compulsory to have user accessible batteries, providing users with the option of upgrading storage as per their requirements and also quote display measurements from the below the notch/punchhole. It's pointless having a 6.67 inch display when one inch is taken up by notches and the curvature of each of the four corners. So if a user wishes to not use the notch and set the display one line below the notch/hole, that should be the screensize and surface area of phone screens.

YUKI93, 24 Sep 2021"A harmonized charging port for electronic devices: US... moreFor me, I have 3 charger. One is bundle with my Android phone (Realme 7 Pro) and other two I bought it (one with 4 USB ports and the latest one with 2 USB ports). But my main charger is the one with 4 USB ports. The other one with 2 USB ports is for traveling and the one that came with my Realme 7 Pro. Not using it at all. I'll still say No to fast charging (I mean higher then 15W charger). Coz, I'll always charged my phone overnight. So, I need slow charge like 10W to 15W charger. Yeah, just one charger basically.

What's not mentioned in this article is the fact that portless devices will be exempt from these laws. Basically these rules stipulate that either a device has USB-C, or no physical ports at all. This combined with the 2 year window to comply with the laws means that Apple won't be forced to go USB-C on the iPhones, rather they'll go portless before the end of the 2 year window (if these rules come into force)

I think it's absolutely ridiculous. Not supplying a charger in the box now is a disgrace, all the money you pay for the device and you get charger.

"A harmonized charging port for electronic devices: USB-C will be the common port."
This would give Apple a serious heart attack.
"Unbundling the sale of a charger from the sale of the electronic device: the Commission says that EU consumers already have an average of three chargers and will only use two."
Funny that, I only own one charger of which I use for everything from my smartphones to my Samsung DeX Station docking accessories, and I never even think of buying another.
