What's bad is the effective diameter of the 77mm camera.
The 52mm has 3.0mm, the 65mm has 3.41mm and the 77mm has 3.21mm. Usually, smartphone tele lenses have an effective diameter that is at least as large as the main camera. So I guess they reduced costs here. The Xiaomi Mi Note 10 tele (not periscope) has 4.37mm.
So in low light conditions it would have been better if they just increased the megapixel count of the 65mm camera. 65mm + more megapixels would have been also better for portraits.

AnonD-1016461, 27 Sep 2021Never heard someone to say apple images are overprocessed a... moreMulti-frame image stacking and saturation boost already makes images overprocessed. So much so that they sometimes look unnatural already.
Not only for iPhones but also to Samsung and pretty much everyone else aside from Sony.
Go compare it to a mirrorless camera's RAW and you'll see just how much processing is always done to the iPhone's images.
Heck, even ProRes yields quite different results compared to its JPEGs. It's overprocessing indeed.

NiJon, 27 Sep 2021I wonder if this also applies to the regular 13 pro? This is almost certain, since they have the exact same camera set up. Wouldn't make sense to use other sensors

Apples images are way over exaggerated by the user. Because of the 12mp. Apple is terrible for quality when it comes to cropping in on images. The detail goes out the window. Not just that. Until they use a minimum of 33mp sensors. Then they might finally catch up with 8k. 8k is awesome. Even my gaming phone can do that. Of course it's no cameraphone. But still impressive resolution and insane detail.
Its interesting to note that Apples camera set up is never going to be as good as androids. Which is why Apple have to keep using Android components to make there phones. Just shows that Android make better phones. Which is why Apple need to keep using Android ltpo screens and antenna modems, and camera sensors etc...
Why not just go with the best instead...? Droid.

Sony makes the best camera sensors. Look at their full frame camera sensors, canon is easily 3 yrs behind in technology.

-Trix-, 27 Sep 2021Sony is building best camera tech for phones yet their own ... moreSony's mobile cameras are derived from their Alpha lineup, and so they behave and produce images similar to an Alpha camera.
Apple's images are what is called overprocessed, because a lot of modifications have been made to make it look better already. It looks good at first glance, but for a real professional photographer, they simply can't afford to have such camera that already processes the images without them having any control to how it should look like.
Whether you like to edit RAW photos or not is absolutely your choice, but it's definitely NOT inferior just because it is a different approach. If Canon or Nikon is to enter the smartphone business too, I bet that their smartphone cameras would also be similar to the Xperias.

Sony is building best camera tech for phones yet their own phone cameras sucks because of the software side, good camera is like 50/50 hardware and software.

Products that Sony can sell millions of, even their phones don't reach this much.
