Samsung also give 4 years of security updates and 2 android update or even 3. It just have 2 years warranty over 5 years warranty. You be happy with middle class hardware with middle class camera for your next 4-5 years.
We live in the year of 2021 that is ending soon and Fairphone have not yet released so it will take a month or more to release and it promises to the end of the year 2025 for security updates on android so thats only 4 years while it is coming out with android 10 then first update is to 11 and second will be 12 and that be it based on it's promise. While it should come out already with android 11

Both the Fairphone 2 and 3 run Android 11 (LOS 18.1) just fine for quite a while now. Bare in mind the FP2 was released in 2015, almost 6 years from now, and it still runs the latest Android (unlike, say, the Galaxy S6 that release that very same year). Fairphone has freedom and repairability in mind, that also includes software freedom and using 3rd-party ROMs. Samsung makes no such promises, while their latest support is better (as you point-out with your S10e), their track record is less than stellar (i.e., good luck if you have an S6 vs the FP2).

Anonymous, 30 Sep 2021Great going, Fairphone!!
I bet Framework was inspired by y... more2 years for all EU countries.
If you have a phone for 5 years then you probably dont even care for any updates as so far you have sailed with phones like that. Never mind that there are not a lot of people who buy expensive phone with flagship specs so it will last for 5 years plus. I have low end budget phone and it have lasted me over 3 years. Dont show any signs of breaking down also.
I just wait for maybe there be some budget smaller phone coming out for android or the flip phones get in budget to middle class range. And i buy budget phone for a reason if they break after 2 years then it's time to buy new budget. No point of repairing them. I am not a fan of repairing anything as that can maybe give you a year more usability that be half the budget phone price

AnonD-1018330, 30 Sep 2021This phone is too expensive for these specs. Then again you people say the same thing in 99% of product pages and announcements. All you want is the most high end specs for basically free if it was possible. Ethos of Fairphone is not that.

At the same time my "old" S10e will get Android 12 with OneUI 4.0 and above all a more extensive Mainline project than ever, so an excellent security update program at least until 2023 from Samsung and beyond thanks to Google via the Play Store. So we have a follow-up between 2019 and 2023 at least.

Great going, Fairphone!!
I bet Framework was inspired by you guys in some way/shape/form.
Hope you succeed and come out with even better products, maybe Linus should consider investing in them too!
And for those complaining about the price, just try buying a 5 year warranty for any phone (assuming the company even provides one that long). The closest one is Nokia with 3 yrs warranty and s/w support for the X10/20 and I think EU (or just France, not sure) mandates 2yrs warranty unlike the rest of the world where you only get 1 fricking year!

AnonD-1018330, 30 Sep 2021This phone is too expensive for these specs. It's a tiny company that doesn't have the same purchasing volumes as Samsung, Xiaomi or Apple, which translates into higher production costs (especially as they are on a fair trade basis), and therefore higher selling prices. On the other hand, the design is really not attractive, the brand's Android tracking is not very appealing and I've never understood why you'd have to replace photo sensors, unless the ones provided are junk. I have an S10e, with a shell, it's like new, running Android 11 with the September security patch. Meanwhile the later Fairphone 3 is still running Android 10.

5 years of warran ty is definitely fair.
Some phones and brands cost 3 times as much and barely gives 2 years of warranty.
In that case and what the phone really can do its a really fair price.
