Google Tensor chipset announced with barely any official details

19 October 2021
It's a mobile SoC with a lot of AI and ML stuff built in.

The experimental Tensor chip from google seems locked not interested wondering if it will be possible to tinker. I want a phone I can own unlock bootloader install custom ROM if I want I mean it's my phone bought with my own money. The reason I don't buy samsung, Oppo, Realme, hauwei, vivo with their locked systems & Xiaomi too which you have to beg & wait like a dog to unlock the bootloader on your own phone. One would wonder if you really own the phone after buying.

i wonder if this can beat M1 pro

Ahmed Aref, 19 Oct 2021What ? Did you read that it has 2 core X1 ?From Article
"but thanks to Engadget we found out that we're dealing with a chip built on a 5nm process, with a CPU that has a tri-cluster architecture, with two big ARM Cortex-X1 cores running at up to 2.8 GHz"

Even previous leked score shows this soc reach 1000 in geekbench 5 so not suprise to be honest.

Anonymous, 19 Oct 2021Finally they beat iPhones in security... They will sell ... moreIt's a trend to not offer microSD card slot so you can't complain the new Pixels don't have it.

....are you serious? You accept any trend even if negative? That's a level of shill that just made me cringe...

Uhmm. We know it works and that it's faster than a last gen midrange soc.

'Tensor uses the most accurate automatic speech recognition ever released by Google...'

              There.
I cannot even imagine, how submissive (or ignorant) must one be to buy Google product.

Anonymous, 19 Oct 2021With that frequencie, nope. 865 maybe. Something like 780 o... more2.8ghz cortex X1 is miles better than cortex A77 or A76 at 3.0ghz. So no way this soc will be below sd 865.

Also SD 888 has just one core Cortex X1, i won't be suprised if this soc match sd 888 in multicore perfomance.

Anonymous, 19 Oct 2021With that frequencie, nope. 865 maybe. Something like 780 o... moreI think at bare minimum it'll be as fast as the D1100 and SD778. I expect it to be a little faster than that. Probably around the SD870 which isn't bad. These phones along with the Zenfone 8 will make up a very small percentage of high performance plain Android phones. I have no problems with the SoC. I just wish there was a smaller phone option.

the fact that there are no specs makes me feel that they arent actually outstanding but nonetheless maybe with Software and hardware both under google the phone will have great performance even after 3 years

I think I'll be willing to sacrifice on some benchmarks cause I prefer the smarter features it brings, which is something not many chipsets has these days, it just becomes faster and faster and faster, kinda the norm now.

Will see in the first benchmarks anyway, and even 1100 or 778 is good enough for 99.99% of applications.

They will sell really well.. Hope they release them in more countries..

Camera-phone to beat... Best Software with 4-5 years of updates... Unique Design...

Wish they have given MicroSD card slot option for people.. But that's a trend to not provide microsd cards in flagships.. So I can't complain.. But with it, people complaining about less storage options would not be complaining at all, as one would have had flexibilty to expand storage anytime he wish.

Anonymous, 19 Oct 2021Probably on pair with 855+ Two X1 cores and two cortex A76, means it will be between sd 870 and 888.

I find it interesting, if it isn't a typo, that this uses the A76 instead of the more recent A78. Then again, the A76 era phones had excellent battery life without heating issues so this might be a good move. The A76 is still very fast, but obviously doesn't benchmark as well as the A78.

Anonymous, 19 Oct 2021Probably on pair with 855+ Nothing wrong with that. If it runs as smooth as Pixel phones are known for, who cares what the benchmarks scores are?
