I'm all hands up for the competition. This will stimulate progress.
Huge props to Mediatek. For me they always produced low-middle rate socs. But it this news is true, Dimensity2000 will beat Snapdragon898.
I really don't understand why SD would switch from TSMC to Samsung since TSMC > Samsung. And if you want to be the top dog with the bestest soc, you should get the best resource.
I will definitely keep my eye on D2000.

hopefully the Adreno 730 are new design, instead of simply process node upgrade like Adreno 660 (which is the same design as Adreno 650)

Str, 20 Oct 2021Good to see competition here. For the time being mediatek w... moreI was going to say "My thoughts exactly" but then I saw your next sentence about 898+ and 3nm. "plus" version always comes only with higher clock speed and not different process. Where did you even hear about 3nm? No fabs has even claimed yet that they are going to start massproduction of 3nm wafers.

It's just don't make sense putting 8 in the third row for Snapdragon number. So there will be no more 0 after this. Everything end up with 8. Make sense with 888 not with others.

Anonymous, 21 Oct 2021That's not enough anymore, for how compact smartphones... moreThe s888 will blow your @,rise out, with 12watts too power it. That's pure brutal power and torque, the s888 reaches 50% till throttling begins.
I have S21ultra with Custom Rom and kernels and I get no throttling even at 42 degrees heat because the threshold and current voltage has been altered. Don't talk nonsense what you don't know kid. Learn before you lost your nonsense

Anonymous, 21 Oct 2021That's not enough anymore, for how compact smartphones... morePassive cooling is cheap junk. Look at Sony 1ii Pro, double Chambers copper cooling with 8 antenna and dual 5g mm wave . That's expensive, tell the phone manufacturers to use the materials. And use your brain. If you have any. Common sense. Look at highend PC and laptops use double copper cooling Chambers. Passive cheap junk trash.

[deleted post]iPhone is not a company and no it won't. Sd 888 can even beat a13 bionic. Especially with too much throttling.

TSMC has been hit harder than Samsung in the chip shortage: as such Qualcomm has to get it fab'd? at Samsung if they want to have even remotely enough stock.

T the Tinkerer, 20 Oct 2021Because those performance and efficiency ratings are theore... moreWell i agree with you my friend.
P1 and P2 by Lenovo were outstanding phones of that time.
I am proud owner of Mi 11 lite 5G and if i dont play games my phone can easily last 2-3 days on normal use.
Before i had my Moto X4 since release date with its 3000 mAh and SD630 which in 2017 was good. When i was using it like any other battery could last 2 to 3 days on heavy gaming it lasted 10 hours as a brand new and after 3,5 year only 2 hours.
THats huge difference.
But as i said i am heavy gamer when i have nothing to do in my work and 12 hours long shifts i play game like Clash of lords 2 which i play since 2015 when i had my Lenovo Vibeshot which also lasted 8 hours when gaming brand new and after 24 months it was still good 3 hours.
Nowdays best endurance phone money can buy is Oukitel WP15 for 300 bucks.
Even on heavy gaming can last more than a day. And on normal use 10 days like nothing.

Anonymous, 20 Oct 2021You claim qualcomm has monopoly but do not show any evidenc... moreIt's not that simple...
You've got some standard essential patents (SEP) Qualcomm has, like part of CDMA or LTE technologies...
It's impossible to build a phone without these patents.
It's not monopoly but a kind of market control.
Qualcomm refused to licence competitors (as it is essential, it's anticompetitive)
Qualcomm licences to OEM instead and charge the whole device (including things that have nothing to do with their patents like screen or storage), and give cashback when OEM choose Snapdragon.
It's not Fair Reasonable And Non Discriminatory (FRAND).
High benefits (600%) on licences OEM are forced to get.
Reduced benefits (15%) on soc itself (and even sometime 0%, case of nvidia's eviction according to European courthouse)
With this behavior, Qualcomm managed to kick :
- Intel
- NVIDIA
- Texas Instruments
- ST-Microelectronics
- VIA
- LG (born dead NUCLUN)
That's not tiny companies...they're not developping in their garage!
This is facts.
This lead to many courthouses decisions in many countries.
I think the U-Turn was Nothern District of California's decision...
Even if Ninth Circuit canceled it (probably to save Qualcomm from damage and interests...and bankrupcy)
Qualcomm felt the danger...behavior changed. Saved one tome, maybe not two!
This is only an opinion.
You will tell me there are others :
- Apple...there's no competition, both devices and soc are from Apple (and we can discuss about Intel's MoDem...)
- Exynos and Samsung...it's the same
- Kirin and Huawei...it's the same
These 3 aren't competitors (now 4 with Google and Tensor)
The 2 real competitors are :
- Unisoc (Spreadtrum)...probably receive some help from chinese authorities...plus Chinese justice divide by 2 Qualcomm's fees on chinese devices built for chinese market
- ...and Mediatek (taiwanese), saved by their position in TV/DVD/Blu-ray... And entry-level devices less charged by fees...and by chinese devices built for chinese market.
As Qualcomm's behavior changed, Mediatek slowly propose higher-end and we start seeing Dimensity 1200 in Europe!...previous high-end were commercial (but not technical) disasters (Helio X30 and mt6595)
