Leave engineers out of the equation here. They are aware of battery degradationl, but for as long as all of you are raging over how awesome insane charge speeds are, they'll just do it regardless what engineers say. Only thing they pay attention to is that they don't catch fire during this charging. That's all they pay attention for. It'll degrade battery faster no matter what anyone promises you. Li-ion charging is a chemical process and faster you're shoving electrons into the cells, the faster it degrades.

Can't say I've ever been bothered by how fast my phone charges, I'd rather just have a battery that slowly charges overnight and lasts many years.

So I think that convenience in fast charging is far more advantageous than people give credit for
You can always get more money to replace a damaged battery but saving 45minutes to be on the run is huge

i genuinely dissed fast charging not for the feature itself but for the possibility of it slowly kills the battery capacity.
But then i got 33W charging which could charge my phone in an hour and ten minutes instead of the normal qualcomm "fast" charging at two hour fifteen minutes.
On day to day usage the difference is pretty significant.
I no longer have to immediately plug my phone to charger when i woke up to carry full charge to work.
Heavy usage during the day? just plug it in for 20~30 minute you'll get extra 30%~50% in the evening to make it last till you get home at night.
