Would be nice if people would stfu about "walled garden closed ecosystem" already. No one forces you to buy an iPhone and secondly, you "wall yourself in" only as much as you want to. I have an iPhone and I don't use a single Apple service. In fact I don't use single Google service either, meaning I can flip between Android and iOS from iOS today to Android tomorrow and not really have any different experience or trouble with anything, because they both support essentially same 3rd party apps and services. And not only that, for the most part iOS apps are of higher quality even when it's the same service. Reddit for example is the biggest example. On Android, the app is absolute trash and lacks so many basic features while there is simply no reason for that. VeryFit app for sport band is also spying trash on Android and won't shut up about GPS location if you turn it off. On iOS, you turn it off and that's that. Signal on iOS allows setting of sent image quality as default, on Android you probably still have to pick it every single time you send a photo. And list probably goes on. Only downside with iOS are browsers where they are lacking or not even existing. Firefox is quite fine though even if it doesn't support extensions. Anyways...

So, Apple has the most closed ecosystem and vendor lock-in? Great.

        and remember,

only in the US "walled garden" is high.

If Apple gives manufacturers licence to use iOS as the operating system, maybe it could help Apple with market share and also profitability. If I want an iOS phone, other than Apple, who sells one?
People have invested in the iOS ecosystem, so they are locked to it and switching to Android would mean losing access to the content which they purchased. That's why, iOS users are loyalist to Apple. Android space is vast, with many manufacturers and the competition among brands is cut throat. That way, users have choice. I have used almost all major brands phones in the span of 7 years including Apple and I give more preference to my specific needs from a phone than other things.

hari120, 29 Oct 2021why should someone be loyal to a smartphone brand? Loyal, in the context of a product, means that they are comfortable with what the brand offers.
It's quite common actually and it happens everywhere, from soup, soap, clothes, gas stations, food chains, stores, to cars.

                  Paraphrase:

Apple makes it the most difficult to break out of the ecosystem.

[deleted post]Why only Huawei and not Xiaomi or dozen of other Chinese vendors? Xiaomi was also very strong.

why should someone be loyal to a smartphone brand?

Where chinese brands reign, but then again, if you factor in brand loyalty, Americans will not buy oppo, vivo, xiaomi, huawei even if they were available. OnePlus from Oppo should have market penetration in the us, but its LG and Motorola.

                            Not surprising

This only means that Samsung is better than Apple since their percentages are in a highly competitive Android industry while iOS users have no option but to buy from Apple again so really nothing special there. If there were other iOS phone makers in phone market, like even a few others, then Apple's percentage would fall drastically and for this reason they do not let others use iOS

LG finishing 3rd in sales in the United States when they exited the mobile industry over 6 months ago is quite surprising. Good for LG.

Apple will always be tops in brand loyalty. It's hard to leave their ecosystem for many. I find it overrated and a ball & chain onto their walled garden but it works for most people already tied down to iMessages, iCloud, Apple Music, Apple Pay, etc.

If I had my own loyalty chart, it would be 100% loyal to ANDROID. Two years ago, I would've said #TeamPixel for life. I'm not so sure any more. Don't like Android 12. Don't like Google like before. I have no real brand loyalty to any Android OEM. Everything is fluid.

                                My favorite companies -
                                Sony
                                Nike
                                Samsung (they're climbing up)

I can be loyal to those brands but I do buy other products too. I think loyalty is a waste of time. Variety is what I'm after. People miss out if they're too loyal to one brand.
