But the money you pay is so huge you can't simply sell in the first year itself. After first year of ownership the resale value nose dives, especially if it is higher variants. Whereas, lower variants in comparison works out well, in terms of long term ownership or resale value

    This is really funny.
    When comes to phone value is estiumated by people and mother company,
    When apple decided even old Iphone 5 but in a brand new condition will have a value of 100 or 150 it will have this value.
    Same goes for any other brand.
    Pricing and value dewgradation is set by certain people.
    If Xiaomi brand keeps its prices like apple do even a brand like Xiaomi will have high valued devices even when they becomes old like above said Iphone 5.

    All depends on people. And again only people will decide which brand will have more value over time and which less nothing else matters.

    Sony for example is one of few which are not made in China India or Vietnam but in Japan and yet devices which are 10 years old like Sony Z1 even in box and brand new condition have value of maybe 10-15 bucks.

    Othervise china made apple after 2 years would have less than half the original price of every device when was released.

    Those so called more updates is fine but it doesnt matter since 90% people swap their phone every 2 years.
    Thus to my honest opinion.

    And quality have no point here because brands like Sony are made in Japan and we can speak about quality but most phone and fashion so called quality brands comes from china even the main company is USA for example.
    If theses so called quality brands would make and do quality products they should make it in their countries of origin like 100-200 years ago.

Support wise, iPhones have 7 years of active software support from phone release date. Android phones, for the most part only have 2 years, in very rare cases 3-4 years depending on vendor.

                          sammy's flagships depreciate the most of all flagships tho, they release them way too expensive and in a month they discount them by 200$ (in countries where they have stores or amazon exists). and in 6months or so, the phones is about 40% cheaper

                            OnePlus 3rd?

                            Wow in my country people dump OnePlus phones for pennies after a year, so I would actually put them at the bottom.

                            Google I don't count, they have high resale value here because they don't officially sell them here.

                              nobody in their right mind mind is going to pay top dollar for a used chinese phone. they start off over priced as it is.

Samsung holding the same position in this regard means, that it is doing far better than Apple because of stiff competition, from several other Android companies. It is easy to maintain business when one has a monopoly over it. So there is nothing special that the apples have done there

                                  It's almost as if actively supporting devices for long time keeps their value up longer... Because both Samsung and Apple have best long term support and even if you sell or buy phone after 2 years, they both still actively get all the updates. Most others do not.
