Which is a shame btw, on paper a great phone but with the RAMdump issue, BT and Wifi issue, hard bricking and Asus support not doing their job, that phone is (sadly) a terrible buy.

Which suprises me how poor it is made, I use Asus PC hardware for years and it is one of the better ones out there, but anything from them like phones or even keyboards and headphones are poor.

They should have stick to what they are good at.

The Flip, 30 Oct 2021You're the perfect consumer for Apple's planned o... moreBecause Apple is the only one doing planned obsolence?

Most if not all smartphone brands are like that, the only difference is that most of these brands have lower re-sale value in the end, but all of them, even the ones that do not exist on the smartphone market anymore had this issue in the past few years.

So please don't say it in a way like Apple was the only one, the issue lays in the whole smartphone market.

Even my LG, with it's over the top glued in battery that is near impossible to remove without destroying it was part of the problem.

We need to start convincing iPhone users to switch to Android, and with phones like the Xperia Pro-I and Z Fold 3, the future looks glorious. ROG Phone 5 and Mi 11 Ultra could be their backbones while mid-range and budget phones would be for the masses.

If Android manufacturers would know how to market their products like Apple does, less people would buy iPhones.

Let's do some calculations. It's worth it when you keeping using your iPhone for as long as you can instead selling it e every single year.

          Buy $1000 iPhone.
Replace battery after 2.5 years for $80.
After 5 years, you spent close to $1100?

If you sell your $1000 iPhone every year, you lose over $2000 in depreciating value after 5 years. You still would've spent $5000 instead of less than $1200 by simply changing the battery once or twice. An iPhone gets software supported 5 years minimum.

Want to save the Earth and thousands of dollars? Hold onto your phone for as long as you can.

Anonymous, 30 Oct 2021What I have been telling people buy iphone and trade in each yearYou're the perfect consumer for Apple's planned obsolescence then. Buy a new iPhone forever and ever with very small upgrades year after year. It's an endless loop.

I've studied and loved phones for a long, long time. Is this our lives for now on? Pretty pathetic. I was listening to Mark-Paul Gosselaar on the Zack To The Future podcast. He said his two oldest kids never leave their room and rarely even have a conversation with them.

What people aren't seeing is iPhone still loses 41% value after a year. Hello? You lose over $400 every year from your brand new $1000 boring af iPhone. But iPhone users don't see that. They just see Apple beating Android at something.

If you use OfferUp, iPhones can get really cheap after 4 years. Like sub-$100. I did that. Got a $80 brand new SE1 last January and it's still supported. Got a $50 used 7 and it is still supported until I traded it in for $530 for a 12 mini. But I find them boring within a couple of months, so I don't care to ever do that again.

The endless cycle of always selling your phone does get annoying though. Mainly because certain settings on certain apps needs to be set up again along with adding back your media files. It's even more annoying on Android because it's more thorough with settings from each app.

DrakeX, 30 Oct 2021Where are Xiaomi phones? They actually depreciate the least... moreThey are worth zero after the first week of ownership.no-one wants ad ridden unreliable phones.

Nothing is surprising here from my own personal experiences. I still will never buy another iPhone because I despise iOS and their boring layout and features. It also creates this vicious cycle of upgrading every year which isn't good for the Earth.

Look at Google losing 83% after 2 years. LOL. I'll wait until 2023 for Pixel 6 to go from $600 to $100. LG and HTC were much, much worse. But this is also why I prefer Android. I can get them dirt cheap in a year. Easy to collect them. Save them from going to a landfill.

You know who isn't listed but seems to be still expensive? Sony. The Xperia XZ1 Compact still goes for $300 on eBay and it's from 4 years ago. It's the unlocked one. Not the Japanese models for $150.

I learned this having an oppo X2. Neo £549 new
After one year trade in was £75. Terrible depreciation. Will only buy Samsung from now on as the oppo etc while cheaper upfront ends up costing more overall taking into account resale price.

                      WOW
Just wait 1-2 year and buy Apple. Best decision

How do you depreciate something that hasn't changed since the last 4 models

The cause of depreciating phones within a short period of time is the advent of too many phones in the market

alski10, 30 Oct 2021What matters the most is that iphone buyers don't get ... moreBuying a new Android phone is way better than buying a used one. Until recently even the best Android phones got only two years of software support. Only buy last gen Android if it’s a flagship otherwise buy a newer midrange phone.

Where are Xiaomi phones? They actually depreciate the least especially the midrangers due to low price.
