Xiaomi introduces Loop LiquidCool tech, promises to double the cooling efficiency of vapor chambers

05 November 2021
While it operates on similar principles, this new tech has two major features that make it more efficient.

Hi, excuse me, there is a list of smartphones with this technology? is worth of it?

Also, the K40s (prob F4 vanilla) with VC vs the K40 (F3) with copper tube... Their perfomance is almost the same or what? I mean, is worth to wait for the F4 or I should go now for the F3 at $310? Also, I would want to know, this would be better for the smartphone (processor) or it would be almost the same? I mean, for the smartphone or processor life...

THANK YOU in advance!

You complained about Xiaomi copying so-called 'patents' right, so let's talk about patent. Are the iOS and Vivo's styling patented or trademarked?

Btw, can you also lob the same question over to Oppo's brother why OxygenOS looking like OneUI. Asking this since you been bringing up Oppo in almost all your patent BS.

By your logic, then Iqoo also copied Xiaomi with the 120W charging or

The fast charging is the same tech on vivo, Realme, Oppo & Oneplus, just under a different name.

Vivo and iqoo already gave 120W charging last year.

Oppo showed the concept for 120W charging and UDC phone, but those remained in concept form for years until Xiaomi actually brought those to production. Really funny of you to blame everything on Xiaomi when you should point the finger to Oppo for being too chicken to put those techs into production. I guess a hater will always be a hater, Anonymous xZI.

Front desi... moreYes, the Mi 8 copied the Iphone X wholesale and 2018 was indeed not a good year for Android phone design because brands like Huawei, Xiaomi, Nokia and Oneplus copied the notch look. What I am trying to say is at least the Mi 8 put 3D face recognition hardware in the big notch as opposed to just for looks like what other brands did i.e. Nokia 8.1.

Samsung, Google & Apple need to copy (adopt) this as soon as possible.... Their phones really could use some proper cooling.

This all don't matter until they improve on the glass sandwich. Since all those fancy heatsinks are held back by the glass back.

The design is flexible, but not literally, right? Would be great if my Flip3 had such a cooling system because only the top half gets hot when gaming.

Anybody knows about the negatives of this?

While this sounds great for chipsets that suffer from overheating under intensive workload, it would be nice to have well-optimized OS software as well. I remembered trying out both Mi A3 and Redmi Note 9, and the difference between the two in terms of memory optimization is completely night and day. That is why I never get excited with custom UI since software optimization can be a hit or a miss.

Kangal, 06 Nov 2021Plastic is a better insulator than Glass, or worse at heat ... moreI see, so theres that much of a difference in thickness that it makes 5 times higher conductivity of glass over plastic irrelevant. Does adding an aluminum frame also not compensate for it?

Throttling doesnt happen due to short bursts, but prolonged loads like gaming, 4k 60 recording etc. The efficiency increases arent enough to keep up with heat transfer. Its either oems choosing to do so or costumers complaining of framedrops in gaming. And its not like the phones are always running hot, only when the process demands it. Even then, samsung and apple are pretty conservative in terms of thermals compared to chinese brands. The hot phone being bad for perf and user experience depends on who you're asking. If adding 5-6 degress to an already 40c phone makes it run without framedrops, i'd take it. That actually improves the 'user experience' for me. The degraded battery can still be changed every two years, for now.

Mediatek sux, 06 Nov 2021How exactly did the plastic used in old phones have better ... morePlastic is a better insulator than Glass, or worse at heat dissipation.
However, to their credit, older devices had thinner plastic backplates. Think back to the Samsung S2 for instance, they were like that to make battery removal easy.

Glass backplates are actually thicker. These are necessarily thicker because glass itself is a very fragile element, especially when it is on a larger surface like current phones. Also, these thick glass backplates make the phone heavier. As a concept, think of drinking hot tea from two mugs: one is a thick-walled glass mug, and the other is a thin-plastic mug. Now, which of these cups will retain heat longer? See, the thickness is important.

Metal (ie Aluminium) is the better option, like I said. But whilst newer processors can use more power these are done with short-burst patterns, and are very efficient. Older processors had to be a lot more careful with power draw, since these were printed on 2D-lithography, such as 20nm, 28nm, 32nm, 45nm and 65nm. Compared to the 3D (or FinFet) nodes ranging from the milestone in 16nm, to the 12nm, 10nm, 7nm, 5nm.

So it is pretty appalling to see phones have begun getting hot and throttling, if early smartphones were able to manage this better, it means newer/more advanced phones are CHOOSING to do this by design. Remember, a hot phone is bad for performance, the user experience, and also bad for the Lithium battery chemistry. But it does ensure people upgrade sooner/more often, which is great for OEMs looking to maximise profits, Planned Obselecense and all that.

The MS Lumia 950XL uses a Heat Pipe. ... moreHow exactly did the plastic used in old phones have better thermals than glass and metal modern phones? And they even have a larger area now too.The aluminum back panel ones, sure. The main reason for throttling is the increased max power usage under load. Notebookcheck does a power consumption under max load test in their reviews, look at the galaxy s series reviews there for example.
