Anonymous, 05 Nov 2021Game does not even run 120fps. Why do you require 144? Chinese pubgm has 120. And a lot of other smaller games do 120 too. Now ios has 120 genshin on ipad pro. Its just a matter of time before that 120 gets to 144 or higher. I was just joking anyway, you dont need any of those for pubgm. How many pros even play on those? For everything else like emulators, any cheap gamepad is so much better than two shoulder buttons on any gaming phone.

Such an iconic brand, with lots of historical importance, and their beautiful designs since days of feature phones. Right till their sale around seven years back, they were making pretty designs and experimenting with types of different materials and technologies etc, but after the change of ownership they seem like going downhill now. Their phones have become quite boring recently, and they are just launching phones every week ever since

Xiaomi self proclaims things and then pays to patent. A non legitimate patent. Oppo invented 120W then Xiaomi copied the idea, then just claimed it’s the world’s 1st phone to use it.

When comes to copycats.
First ever cell phone was Motorola invented back in 1973 since then all brand are copy cats.
Apple, Sony, Samsung, Nokia, Lenovo, Xiami, Realle, Oppo, Vivo etc.
Motorola were first to invent a cell phone and without thm no other mobile technology were possible regardless of brand.
&like Kenbak-1 was the first ever computer for homes invented by John V. Blankenbaker and his Kenbak Corporation.
Coputers like Apple 1, Vega, Commodore, Altair, Atari, Amiga, ZX Spectrum, Sinclair etc came later and thus were also a copies.

Anonymous, 05 Nov 2021Sorry typo. A metal rear panel, not a frame. No problem, but what I said still holds true - the cooling solution usually makes a contact with the machined out billet frame. Then the heat is dissipated through its side (Hence heat pipes on some phones are connected to their side frames).

You can get cooling by using tesla valves and venturi combined with "standard" heat pipes. Things won't get much better until the mobile world gets a new, properly optimised OS for use on small mobile devices and there is a step change in battery tech.
3d cpu/gpu/ram stacks will help for a while, what we need is a safe battery chemistry that recharges through absorbing heat directly, peltier plates etc are no use on mobiles as a scavenger system to help re-charge today's lithium batteries.
Andriod has ALWAYS been in-efficient, impossible to properly optimise, since before even public beta release, when roms for flashing were only 120mb,compare efficiency of an old HTC HD2 running winmo 6.5 compared to even cut down, semi optimised andriod 2 or 3.
Andriod now is huge and needs huge amounts of ram to load onto.
Yea gods, I can remember when andriod ran off sd cards, no ram loading, now that was slow, and it wasn't Google who thought of running entire os from ram.
This is why you need 8-16gb of ram to run modern android, 8g to run andriod out of and a few gb spare + the ram needed for other tasks.
And yet with 15 years + of evolution, all that's happened is androids got even more in-efficient, phones do nothing new that my symbian sony/Ericsson p800 from 2003 couldn't do,modern kit does same old things, just quicker.
But not the hundred times quicker that supposedl vastly improvedd modern kit specs would point to, same with pcs etc, my first true pc was a state of the art complete compaq laptop based unit, you name the extra, I had it, it's spec was 75hz x4 processor, 16mb ram, and a huge 120mb hard drive !!!
But, there was nothing basic that a modern pc can do that the compaq couldn't do,just new is faster.
Case in point, I could get dragon naturally vocal software to just about run on an HTC hd2, very slowly, just as I could run full Windows xp, slowly on one too, things today are old ideas, just running quicker.
But an edited and optimised version of Windows xp embeded ran OK on an hd2, well enough to use for basic stuff.
Nothing new under the sun.

Anonymous, 06 Nov 2021Microsoft Lumia 950 XL has this.
CPu was SD810. This is not true.
The MS Lumia 950XL uses a Heat Pipe.
The water heats up from the processor, and this vapour travels down to what is called the notch. As it travels it cools down. So when it comes to that point, it condenses back to a liquid. This converted water enters the wick that is inside the notch (or Fin). And this cooler, liquid, water travels up the same pipe back to the start-point where the processor is. It is able to travel up this pipe, defying gravity, because the wick is actually very small and the water molecules stick to it. This is similar to how trees suck up water from their roots, and they are able to transport that water meters up into the air, all the way to their leaves where it is required for cellular activities. Now this solution usually works well, but if there's too much heat (like we're seeing in 2020-2022 phones) then you have Heat-pump "Dryout" problem. This is when the liquid water in the wick when travelling up/back actually starts to boil again inside the wick, which blocks the movement of the liquid and massively hurts the cooling potential.
One of the reasons throttling wasn't an issue back when devices were smaller/denser, and made on inferior lithography (28-16nm) with hotter/less efficient components (ie Display) is because the backplate used to be made from metals and plastics, which are better heat dissipators than Glass backplates which most devices use nowadays.
The solution that Xiaomi showed here is called a ThermoSiphon, and its the concept that I think Fujitsu miniaturised/innovated back in 2014 or so (I think I've seen it in some Windows Handhelds). In such case, they're still using copper and water, but it is developed in a loop instead of a pipe. And the liquid water actually travels through a much wider channel (instead of a tiny wick) through a one-direction pathway. The reason it is wider and transports more water/cooler is why this trick works so well. It is using a "passive pump" instead of an "active pump" like you would see on a Gaming PC/AIO-Pump.
So they're very different things, what you're thinking in the 950XL.

If anyone is curious, this is real.
It is not fake nor a gimmick. It is called a ThermoSiphon (aka Heat Syphon) and they are very good products. With their main limitations being difficult to manufacture, and higher cost. But on a smartphone that costs in excess of USD $800, with a decent profit-margin, this solution makes sense. Especially since the horrid throttling we've seen with the QSD 865 to the QSD 888+.
One major drawback, is that the Condenser Valves operate in a certain orientation (or loop). Which means if you hold your phone a certain way, they will work wonders (eg 5'C cooler than conventional). Hold it in a less optimal way, and you will get the same performance (eg 0'C cooler). And if you hold it upside down, the resistance of gravity on the tiny water droplets will hurt your cooling effectiveness (eg 2'C hotter than conventional).
So phone manufacturers SHOULD use this innovation. But they have to be mindful on how it is designed and fitted. In this example, Xiaomi actually installed it incorrectly. If the heat source is on the bottom, it means water vapour/gas can travel up fairly easily, and it means the cooled water droplets/liquid can travel down without resistance. Since the Mi Mix 4 has the processor located at the top of the phone, it means when using it in the normal orientation (portrait) you will actually see lower performance. The phone will get hotter, and it will throttle sooner. Also, when using this, with the phone in Landscape Mode, you should have the Liquid-Line on the bottom, with the Vapour-Line on the top. Now, Android actually has an SDK-defined Landscape Mode, and that is when turning the phone towards the left with the Volume Rocker (right) side pointing upwards, or the Earpiece being on the left with the USB-C port on the right side of the Landscape Mode. Xiaomi showed this in the video, if you paid attention, so they actually made their Cooling Pipe/Heating Pipe in the wrong positions as well. So this thermosiphon was actually working worse than a conventional Heat Pipe/Wick system.
Despite doing the wrong thing, Xiaomi said they still saw a 5.2'C reduction. And I think that comes down to several things: the game may be slightly different, the chips behaviour (silicon lottery) may be slightly different, they may have miscalculated or lied. Or the most probable reason: their old Heat Pipe actually sucked that badly, that even a wrongly implemented ThermoSiphon beat it by a big margin. If Xiaomi implements the changes I noted, they can easily see another 5'C cooling improvement on this, and that summed up is a pretty huge difference (43'C versus 53'C) for a "Handheld device" or "Pocket Computer". You can read more about this innovation on sources like Wikipedia etc etc.

Anonymous, 05 Nov 2021You mean the liquid cooling used by Lumia 950 in 2015?
... moreOh good, take the Mi 8 designed in 2017 as reference. The Mi 8 and subsequent Poco F1 did have functional infrared face recognition, so the notch was not there for looks only.
Only the Lumia 950 XL had liquid cooling, not the 950. The difference in ability between the 2 phones to keep the hot SD808 in check showed that this kind of cooling system really work. It's good to see Xiaomi and other OEMs are working to ensure proper cooling for the SD898 after admittedly hot experience with the SD888.
