For a long time it was the cheapest way into the iOS walled garden.

But oh boy I love the heck out of my w200i, still remember playing Pokémon Gold on it at 20fps lol

(I guess I just had bad luck with the K750i)

Sometimes you just want a device where no one can call you or recieve thousands of notifications, that's what iPod (and any music player) is for. You plug in the headphones and listen to music in peace.

I remember reading Nineteen Eighty-Four and The Catcher In The Rye from my first generation iPod touch. Installer/Cydia had e-books I could read for free. It sounds ridiculous now reading from a tiny 3.5-inch display, but the first iPhone actually had one of the largest displays when first released.

I remember 2008 like it was yesterday. My mom gave me her iPhone 2G which was originally my brother's that November. Jailbroke that too and put the lightsaber sound each time I slide to unlock. Even had Christmas lights around the display. On my iPod touch, I had the Vista theme. You needed an app called Poof! to create blank icons.

As much as I can't stand iOS today, it did teach me a lot about customization which is ironic since that's stock iOS' biggest weakness. And this was 2008 when YouTube had only been big for about 2 years. Many how-to-do videos were still in 240p. Most folks were still using MySpace instead of Facebook unless you lived in the Philippines and then you likely used Friendster. Twitter was still very new to us.

From 2007-2011 were some good times in mobile. By I do like phones from 2017 and after. Snapdragon 835 was a great chip. Can still be used today. I think 4 GB RAM has another 4 years to go before most users needs more.

Remember having one, because before iPhone 4 came out, every iPhone was a specific carrier exclusive device... and expensive (but that more due to that carrier milking it out)

Poor man's iPhone some of my friends called the iPod Touch, sad the current ones have beyond terrible battery life nowdays, back in the day the battery life of these things was much better.

Anonymous, 07 Nov 20216s uses A9I was talking bout the 7th gen iPod. It has an A10 but not the same as one in the iPhone 7.

My first iPhone OS experience came from a first generation iPod touch I bought for $200 back in July 2008. Jailbroke it 5 days later because how boring the OS was.

Had IntelliScreen on it. Had my name on the slider with the Jumpman logo. Had the Playboy bunny logo at the top. I used Installer before being called Cydia. It was Summerboard before being called Winterboard. It's also responsible for my early taste with emulation that I wouldn't really revisit again until a decade later. Back then, emulation was mostly miss even for NES.

Best year for innovation was 2008 to me. The App Store opened that year. Android was released that year with the T-Mobile G1/HTC Dream. From 2008-2011 is when things felt revolutionary. Then 2013-2016 is when tech got more refined. Since 2017, it's been even more perfected but we also lose practical things like removable battery, headphone jack, and microSD slot.

I do prefer the current phones today. Every year does get better. But my actual passion for phone tech has declined. That's what happens with all things. A decline. Becomes stale with very little improvements when things get closer to perfect in most areas.

An0n, 07 Nov 2021Nah, I think until iPhone 3, iPhone 3gs was a success back ... moreYes. The 3GS and iPhoneOS 3 at that time have fulfilled few of basic features that iPhone didn't have before, e.g. copy pasting and video recording. Not to mention App Stroe already have quite amount of apps too.

iOS 15 with iPhone 7 hardware? No surprise. Even iPhone 6S runs iOS 15!

Ballmer was the reason Microshit failed on the consumer level competition, backed with Gates too. And also, notice similar dumb thinking on blackberry? Yea, they fell because of their ego too. "No business man was interested in no keyboard phone, no stylus phone." Guess where they ended up now? Trash, where nobody bothers to pickup.

They still use the newer iPod Touches at some dispensaries to scan ID and inventory, they use here in the Colorado USA - The barcode scanner android phones I think are too expensive like $600 USD compared to the iPod Touch at the weed stores - The security guard with Glock/Smith Wesson and iPod Touch always want to make sure driver license isn't underage, not like back home in Pakistan where I am from I just go to the market and get hash without no one scanning shit -

iphone was a failure til the iphone 4s launched

I actually like the appeal of the iPod touch since I can have an iOS experience for little money when buying new. I don't care about not having SIM connectivity since I'm not using iOS as my daily driver. If Apple made a new-gen iPod Touch with A11 or A12 Bionic chipset and 3GB RAM, that is already more than good enough for me.
