Tech nerd 333, 07 Nov 2021I don’t understand as to why qualcomm switched to samsung n... moreIt's not because of high demand of apple's A chips (cuz MediaTek is using TSMC nodes too and Dimensity 2000 built on their node)
It's all because of this new CEO Cristiano Amon
He's switching to Samsung nodes like he owns them their life
He's the one who drives Qualcomm to fall
if you noticed people afraid of Exynos like death and Samsung used Snapdragon for their midrange phones last year
in the upcoming years we will see heating and throttling Snapdragon chips and Samsung as a saviour will back with fully optimized chips

Holding on to Android phones is unwise too, since their resale or trade-in value plummets compare to iPhones.

Almost every third year there comes a Qualcomm chip which contributes to global warming and becomes gamers nightmare.

Tech nerd 333, 07 Nov 2021I don’t understand as to why qualcomm switched to samsung n... moreThat's because TSMC has its hands full with Apple's A-series chips. I heard Mediatek is also using TSMC.

That's quite early since Qualcomm usually tends to launch their brand new flagship-tier chipset at the end of the year.

I don’t understand as to why qualcomm switched to samsung nodes, however, they may have some future back up in mind. Perhaps, samsung may have some potential service in the future. I really hope they change their mind on using samsung nodes, the 888 lost so much potential because of it, and I don’t want 898 to be another. I widh they could also bring more performance jumps for the new gen SoC and take their time, something that can br on par with the new amd integrated gpu in samsung exynos. But in all honesty, they should prioritize heat mangement first.

BigDisplay, 07 Nov 2021I will look forward to which problems the chip will have th... moreMaybe it will have deep grove technology where the circuit goes up the bottom and sides of deep trenches, with a thermal heat wicking layer matched into the groves, and under the circuit (dual sided cooling), with borrow through circuit lines from grove to grove. Increasing performance and reducing heat.

But maybe double you performance, or more, Inna desktop, fit a bigger chip in the mobile space. Maybe only stamp roll technology could do this the easiest at this time.

Let's hope they have something to counter Apples video camera capability. 12 bit+, 4:2:2/4:4:4 is still needed, with 4kp50/60 and 8k. The present capability is something of cheaper pocket camera territory. They are using 200mb/s h265 in those cameras, which is maybe around 400mb/s ProRes, if everything goes right (h265 hates movement). If you going charge that much extra to those cameras, it should be better!

No-one should be hyped for this.
Based on the figures released by ARM themselves, we can expect a reduction in performance with next years chipsets. This is going to be just like 2015, when we had the QSD 800/801/805 devices still competing against QSD 808/810 devices. The saving grace for phones is that 5G Radio could get more efficient, as would displays, and perhaps the battery unit, but I don't expect miracles here. The GPU could get a boost, but its a little pointless since we're not really using them for their potential. Neural Processors (AI/NL/etc etc) are just a buzzword, they don't do anything that the GPU cannot do, or at least the CPU.

What is worth getting excited about is ARMv8's hardware-based security.
It is possible that 2022 phones will get updates longer (eg 5 years vs 3 years) than 2021 phones. However, that's not in the cards for all OEMs except Apple. Not to mention that the software front has to catch-up, so Android 13 and their OEM variants. This might be bad news for bootloaders, Custom Roms, and root access.

So if I were consumer now, I would stick with my QSD 855 phone. Or if upgrading from something slower, than the QSD 778 is a fine option, you won't be missing out from the QSD 898. Instead I would save my money and get the next upgrade (eg 2023 phone).
