Flashback: the Sony Xperia Z5 Premium was the first ever smartphone with a 4K display

14 November 2021
However, Sony was maximizing the wrong thing - high refresh rate, not high resolution was the way forward for flagships.

I have Xperia x z premium but switched off automatically one day when I charged the phone can anyone tell me what to do.

On a small phone complaining i have a lot better sxcreen than you is just clumsy statement.
Know several people who had same phone and it lasted 2 days on any normal use. But when screen was set to 4K it was something else.

Ali Bashir, 14 Nov 2021I bet most people saying 4k screen is useless are the same ... moreMost likely.
It's only useless when you are not using it (a polite way of saying 'don't have it').

AnonD-731363, 15 Nov 2021At that time costed 1500 euros which is typical Sony price ... moreHad the Silver Z5 Premium for 2 years, and the Jet Black XZ Premium for 4 years after it; now I have just replaced that with the Frosted Purple Xperia 1 III for around 3 weeks. Those fones have gorgeous 4K displays and, being a traveller, I have spent a fair amount of time watching movies and stuff on them more than the average smartphone user does. At no point have I ever witnessed the battery discharging from full to empty halfway through a 4K movie on any of them fones, though. Also, I yet have to hear of, let alone come across, a single non-Sony smartphone that sports a display with a higher resolution than 2K.
There is some validity in the argument that there is a hit taken by the battery on a smartphone with 4K resolution; but Sony, through their remarkable battery management, have demonstrated that difference to be of little impact in day-to-day usage. As for the argument over visual discernible differences between screens of different resolutions; that has been a constant since the jump from 720p to FHD, yet nowadays people swear on their lives that the difference between FHD and 2K is as day and night. Though I would not go as far as that, I can confirm that 4K does bring about a slight difference, though I doubt that the average user would care for it.

Every phone gets warm after some time. Stop spreading misinformation.

Yes it was. And it was also the most famous because of it among websites.
I was in wow when I saw that it was indeed a 4k display on a phone. It was quite an achievement! Alongside a pretty darn good camera that was the best of it's time.

This phone was amazing. But Unfortunately, Snapdragon 810 was a bad processor. Heating problem with that.

Keep justufying that dim panel, I'll take the superior quality high grade brighter panel that is winning awards that Xperia can only dream of...

If the brightness is too high, you can turn it down according to your liking.
Your Xperia cannot even meet hdr600 standards. No way to turn the brightness up.
Did I mention how it drops refresh rate and resolution?? Not because of content, but because of overheating issues during basic tasks like web browsing.

You Sony fans can keep falling for the 4k marketing, some of us will actually choose the better all round panel over high resolution alone.

Google gives you step-by-step instructions on unlocking the bootloader, while Apple has prison iOS.
Samsung, Sony and HTC are the eastern brands that sell outside Asia. All 3 of them sell their products with unlocked bootloaders or they provide steps to unlock it.

But it doesn't do anything to justify your claims. It's a constraint and implementation issue from Sony. Not a 4k issue.

Thank you for letting the people know that oled on Xperia is so dim that it is matched by a 6 year old flagship.
No matter how much you justify that dim panel, it's a 2021 flagship that pales in comparison to other flagship displays on the market.
The difference is surely noticeable, much more than the difference between 3k and 4k.

I'd rather pick a sharp 3k panel with proper 1000 nits brightness over a dim 4k panel that drops refresh rate and resolution because of overheating issues.

It would be extremely hard to notice the 4k benefit on a 5.5" screen, you can't notice the difference in 4k until you get to above about 2 inches! Nobody looks at their phone with the screen 2 inches from their face! The 4k phone screen is just purely for marketing as there is absolutely no benefit in screen quality, in fact it actually INCREASES cost and DECREASES battery life!"
