Huawei looking to license smartphone designs to get around US trade ban

By licensing its designs to third-party companies, Huawei would be able to gather components like TSMC chipsets and 5G modems for its smartphones.

    Zero, 17 Nov 2021I guess the US needs to block all the chinese brands once at all.Ha. They do that...China will ban with all trade with the US...and your prices for items are gonna skyrocket within one day...just like they banned trade for neodynium temporarily with trump.

        People don't understand why US government banned Huawei to do business with US Companies, its because $1 so what I can tell you Huawei it won't fall down that company is big enough to fall down. Since I used Huawei phone I wasn't cry about battery or something.

Huawei will make the phone that someone else sells. It'll basically be a Huawei phone sold under a different name. Just like the Nexus 6P was a Huawei phone sold under the Google brand. Personally I don't see how Huawei could acquire any components this way. I just see it as a way a Huawei design can be sold with 5G, but I don't see how this would allow Huawei the company to acquire the chips. Getting what's essentially a Huawei device with GApps would be nice, but I'd expect this whole thing to run the price up a bit.

                                  That sounds bold considering that smartphone design these days all look the same. Not that long ago when bezel and chin is still a thing, we can see various smartphone designs from various brands. Now, pretty much every smartphone looks exactly the same from whichever brand you look at. Only Sony dares to be different from the trend.

                                        Could be nice, its absolutely one of the best brand out there with flagship phones, best solution would be with Kirin chip then 👍🏻
