Nice phone and the price seems rather high for what it offers but again there are barely any options present in compact segment, so if manufacturers make compact phones more often then there is definitely a market for them. A small one but perhaps there is

I guess this is the concept of less is more? They could have fitted a bigger battery in that chunky phone. Although I would like a midrange phone with such a screen size and aspect ratio for the international market, and for less money.

You think this would be just $200? Obviously this is not worth near $1000, but no company in Japan can afford selling this for $200.
Why do you think that except Sony , all other japanese electronic companies are today way weaker than they used to be 30 years ago?
They cannot match price of foreign companies from South Korea and mainly China.
- Nikon has recently shut down a factory in Japan amd production moved to Thailand.
- Sharp has oled that can go down to 1Hz, while samsung LTPO 10Hz. But none uses their oled because they cost much more than panels from Samsung, LG and Boe.

- larger cam sensors because no space enough.
- triple cam + Tof/Laser AF, because no space enough
- no 120 Hz screen, because no space enough for decent battery
- no proper cooling, because small surface and not enough space inside
- less than 2900mAh
- no screen with size enough to properly enjoy games, videos and even type messages without issues.

XZ1 Compact had weak ... moreSure, iPhone mini sales won't be massive and it won't beat any other iPhone 13/12 sales numbers, but that doesn't mean there is no market and need for those
Plus, it doesn't cost much to scale down (or up) the design of the iPhone as long as the motherboard (and its connectors) remains the same.

Like many other cool gadgets, I'm sure this will be a Japan-only phone 😒
Not that many would buy it for over $900 outside of Japan anyway...
But perhaps this would entice some Chinese clones and eventually a know brand to pick it up???

XZ2 Compact had weak sales compared to XZ2, XZ3 and XZ2 Premium.
Market for small phones is dead. Be sure iphone 13 mini is gonna be the least sold among 13 series.

The absurd high price and punch hole screen with so much bezel on top and bottom. Other then that i really want a compact phone that is around same size as this one but i want it in a price range of 200-250 Euro. For the use my phones have there is no reason to justify paying more then that. Also i want the compact phone to have 4000mAh battery and something as powerful as Dimensity 800 inside the phone. For larger battery the phone can be thicker as it can be even up to 12mm thick cause that dont matter as much the other dimensions of the phone. At most maximum 140mm tall for a phone be fine for me
