just another attempt at deflecting and to try and stop the RtR from becoming a thing, so that they can show how repair friendly they are!

Certainly there is something very evil behind it (to consumers I say).

Maybe now iPhones are becoming so expensive Apple might have realised that disabling genuine replacement parts is stupid. Could be antitrust issues too. As far as I’m concerned, if I pay for an item it’s mine. How I have it repaired should be my decision.

New market and income for Apple. Of course many users will buy it even if it just 100$ screws. As long as it's "Genuine parts from Apple".

Why not make money off repairs? people will buy the parts from Apple, so they still earn.

Anonymous, 18 Nov 2021All androids manufacturers will follow soonAll Android phones are already third party repairable, even allowing use of non-OEM parts because they're not like Apple, intentionally putting software configuration tricks in place to render third party repairs still end up with a dysfunctional iPhone even after a successful replacement of the defective part.
I suspect those official Apple repair kits are going to cost nearly the same as having your iPhone repaired by Apple. I mean Apple always had highway robbery priced accessories. It charges $19 for a polishing cloth and a $119 Apple pencil that's only usable for current generation ipads, what makes anyone think they're going to save cash on Apple's self-repair kits. It will only add more profit to an already greedy trillion dollar company who projects a facade of concern for the environment when it's actually just plain PR stunt.

probably they will price those parts for DIY higher than getting your devices fixed by Apple

Ok that's absolutely f*cking insane. I kinda expected that this will become more popular as there is more and more emphasis on reducing the e-waste but I would've NEVER thought that it would be Apple pioneering it. Mad world.

[deleted post]That's apple for you. Notice how they represent the demographic that is least likely to care about or engage in any of this. But you can't point that out because das ray cis.

Hey, i’ve seen this 2 years ago! Hmmmm I wonder why they are making another announcement of the same thing...Maybe its because last time was a PR stunt? But surely this time around, Apple is for sure giving owners of an iphone, the right to repair and only having the customer pay for the part they need to replace and nothing else, right?
